Patrice Rushen might be the most underrated female R&B/Soul artist of all time. Besides singing she also wrote, produced and played multiple instruments. Uber talented lady.

From S.O.S. Band III. They were on Clarence Avant's TABU record label. This track was written by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis who would end up going on to produce the group's future albums where they reached their peak success.

Speaking of Evelyn 'Champagne' King this is from her sophomore LP 'Music Box' which was released in 1979. Her main producer of her 1st three albums was Theodore Life. After that she hooked up with Morrie Brown and Kashif for a couple of early 1980's post disco releases.

"Let's Start All Over Again"
I admit when it came to Evelyn, i was late to the party.....getting familiar with her music long after she became a true R&B star
this tune is exquisite...showcasing her voice......thanks Dougie fo posting

Been listening to this gem of an album this morning. I'd probably list it in my top 25 favorite hip hop LP's of all time. Here is cut 5 from side A

"This Is It (Ain't Gonna Rain)"

Samples used:

"You Can Make it if You Try" Sly & the Family Stone

"Funky Broadway" Dyke & the Blazers

"Spoonie's Back" Spoonie Gee

T.A.M.I Show was two concerts at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium held in October, 1964, filmed for theatrical release.

The Black recording artists who performed at this show were Chuck Berry, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye and the Supremes, but the real star of the show was James Brown, with the Famous Flames. If you've never seen James Brown dancing in his prime, you're in for a real treat. The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones also appear.

Dyke & the Blazers are amazing. I've been listening to some of their discography over the past few months. Hip hop sampled them a few times.

James Brown is a GOD in my opinion. He did more for black music than any other artist. And they didn't call him the hardest working man in showbiz for nothing.

A self serving post.........i followed the music of Dyke & The Blazers in real time as they were churning out their music...from the mid 60,s through the late 60,s....i was that teenaged white boy who thought it was cool to love R&B and Funk, not sanitized "white mans music".....i think i bought 3 or 4 singles by Dyke& The Blazers back then...wasnt interested in mainstream music....but cool stuff..well at least to my eyes lol....the song So Sharp led me to a lifelong love of their music

an upbeat, joyous song to start the day.....highlighted by some great horn work
Oh my gosh this is amazing. Luther Vandross interpolated this song on his hit song Power of Love/Love Power.
