I am listening to this and decided to pour a glass of red. Great tune. Like you always do - went down a rabbit hole and ...well you know....another 60, Soul song, performed by a long forgotten group.....not by me though....featuring a Sam Cooke sound alike on lead vocal
buyer beware...its a lovey dovey ballad..lol

"I Do Love You" by GQ
This is a cover of Billy Stewart who is one of my favorite singers from the 60's. The group actually dedicated the entire LP to the memory of Billy.
Fully agree that the lead, Louis Williams owed a big debt to Sam Cooke in his vocal style and phrasing...
this is the Ovations im used to
not familiar with this artist at all...but i did give a listen to a couple of songs you posted....pleasant enough...not exactly my music style...however there is no denying his singing chops.... died far too young.... im thinking his death comes as a shock to you Dougie....and you are feeling a little sad today....RIP Michael Eugene Archer (1974-2025). Better known as the artist D'Angelo. A pioneer of the neo soul movement that began in the mid 1990's. He passed away today from pancreatic cancer. Just months after his ex girlfriend and mother of his oldest child, Angie Stone, was killed in an automobile accident.
D'Angelo rose to prominence in 1994 when he co-wrote and co-produced the song "U Will Know" by Black Men United. It appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Jason's Lyric. It's a positive uplifting song that featured several prominent r&b artists of that time including Tevin Campbell, Gerald LeVert, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Stokley Williams (from Mint Condition), Al B. Sure! and my favorite group After 7 amongst others.
In 1995 he released his debut LP, Brown Sugar, which in my opinion was his best work. It spawned several successful songs including the title track, "Lady", a remake of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin" and my favorite cut "Me and Those Dreamin' Eyes of Mine"
In 2000 he released his 2nd album, Voodoo. Many consider it to be a seminal work in the neo soul genre. The most popular song was "Untitled (How Does It Feel)". Minor hits like "Devil's Pie" and "Left and Right". But instead of choosing a track from that album I'm going to choose this one from a Live Jazz album he released in 1998.
"Heaven Must Be Like This" a cover of Ohio Players
Finally we'll end on a positive note. This is my absolute favorite song from D'Angelo. From the Space Jam soundtrack (1996). I've posted this before I'm sure.
"I Found My Smile Again"
Definitely a shock since I wasn't aware he was sick. He kept a very private profile, didn't engage in social media etc. Yes a bit sad as well since this is what I grew up listening to a lot. His 1st album Brown Sugar I bumped a lot when it came out in 1995. His music touched a lot of people I see it in all the comments on social media. Guy was a superb talent singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist.not familiar with this artist at all...but i did give a listen to a couple of songs you posted....pleasant enough...not exactly my music style...however there is no denying his singing chops.... died far too young.... im thinking his death comes as a shock to you Dougie....and you are feeling a little sad today....
