Great tune from the S.O.S. Band. Early production from powerhouse production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

What strikes me is that several soul groups from the late 60's and 70's were mixed race composed.

"Baby Now That I've Found You" by The Foundations

Fitting for my playlist entitled The Foundation.

I'm thinking of making this track #1 on my Foundation playlist. Because the message is so simple and true

Just got a great deal on this vinyl. NM/VG+. $30 incl. shipping. In my opinion an absolute steal. This album is incredible.

"I Do Love You" by GQ

This is a cover of Billy Stewart who is one of my favorite singers from the 60's. The group actually dedicated the entire LP to the memory of Billy.

RIP Michael Eugene Archer (1974-2025). Better known as the artist D'Angelo. A pioneer of the neo soul movement that began in the mid 1990's. He passed away today from pancreatic cancer. Just months after his ex girlfriend and mother of his oldest child, Angie Stone, was killed in an automobile accident.

D'Angelo rose to prominence in 1994 when he co-wrote and co-produced the song "U Will Know" by Black Men United. It appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Jason's Lyric. It's a positive uplifting song that featured several prominent r&b artists of that time including Tevin Campbell, Gerald LeVert, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Stokley Williams (from Mint Condition), Al B. Sure! and my favorite group After 7 amongst others.

In 1995 he released his debut LP, Brown Sugar, which in my opinion was his best work. It spawned several successful songs including the title track, "Lady", a remake of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin" and my favorite cut "Me and Those Dreamin' Eyes of Mine"

In 2000 he released his 2nd album, Voodoo. Many consider it to be a seminal work in the neo soul genre. The most popular song was "Untitled (How Does It Feel)". Minor hits like "Devil's Pie" and "Left and Right". But instead of choosing a track from that album I'm going to choose this one from a Live Jazz album he released in 1998.

"Heaven Must Be Like This" a cover of Ohio Players

Finally we'll end on a positive note. This is my absolute favorite song from D'Angelo. From the Space Jam soundtrack (1996). I've posted this before I'm sure.

I loved these hip hop remixes of D'Angelo songs.

"Me and Those Dreamin' Eyes of Mine" featuring Redman. Remixed by Erick Sermon.

"Lady" feat. AZ. Produced by DJ Premier.

Haven't heard this gem in a minute. One of my favorite remixes of the 90's.

"I'm So Into You" feat. Wreckx-n-Effect. Remixed by Teddy Riley.

Definitely a shock since I wasn't aware he was sick. He kept a very private profile, didn't engage in social media etc. Yes a bit sad as well since this is what I grew up listening to a lot. His 1st album Brown Sugar I bumped a lot when it came out in 1995. His music touched a lot of people I see it in all the comments on social media. Guy was a superb talent singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist.

"Machine Gun" by the Commodores. The only instrumental released by the group. Funky guitar riff.

The sample beginning at 1:38 was used by the Dust Brothers on the Beastie Boys lead single from 'Paul's Boutique'
