Really? Richemont just fired the CEO of A Lange & Sohne as recent as last September.Rolex watches just have good marketing behind them, they are one of the worst luxury watches once you start learning a thing or two about real luxury watches.
If you want real luxury, you gotta go with one of the watches that Bernard Madoff used to have, A. Lange and Sohne. But it's gonna cost you a minimum of $30k.

Sure, A Lange and Sohne is at the same league as the Patek Philippe and sister brand Vacheron Constantin but it's underperformed since the brand is "young" and relatively obscure.
A Lange and Sohne is not A Lange and Sohne founded in 1845. It was a brand resurrected by IWC after German unification in 1990.
Plus, if I could recall from an article from Bloomberg years ago, A Lange and Sohne was and still is not ready for "prime time" when it comes to servicing watches that they sold in significant numbers. Many owners complained the "turnaround" time to service A Lange and Sohne watch is significantly longer, in some cases a month or two longer than Rolex, Patek Phillippe and Vacheron Constantin.
Until they fixed those issue, it would be a challenge to convince potential buyers to pay a premium on the best from Germany.
WRT Bernie Madoff, if I could recall, he collected mostly Rolex, not A Lange and Sohne. He loved Rolex so much that not only he collected a ton of Rolex watches, he convinced then Rolex CEO Patrick Heiniger to hand in Billions of Swiss Franc under his management, money that could well be endowment destined for charity works and pension for watchmakers at Rolex watch company. We know what's the endgame of the scheme.
