Rolex watches just have good marketing behind them, they are one of the worst luxury watches once you start learning a thing or two about real luxury watches.

If you want real luxury, you gotta go with one of the watches that Bernard Madoff used to have, A. Lange and Sohne. But it's gonna cost you a minimum of $30k.
Really? Richemont just fired the CEO of A Lange & Sohne as recent as last September.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aD2BaRRMUzfU

Sure, A Lange and Sohne is at the same league as the Patek Philippe and sister brand Vacheron Constantin but it's underperformed since the brand is "young" and relatively obscure.

A Lange and Sohne is not A Lange and Sohne founded in 1845. It was a brand resurrected by IWC after German unification in 1990.

Plus, if I could recall from an article from Bloomberg years ago, A Lange and Sohne was and still is not ready for "prime time" when it comes to servicing watches that they sold in significant numbers. Many owners complained the "turnaround" time to service A Lange and Sohne watch is significantly longer, in some cases a month or two longer than Rolex, Patek Phillippe and Vacheron Constantin.

Until they fixed those issue, it would be a challenge to convince potential buyers to pay a premium on the best from Germany.

WRT Bernie Madoff, if I could recall, he collected mostly Rolex, not A Lange and Sohne. He loved Rolex so much that not only he collected a ton of Rolex watches, he convinced then Rolex CEO Patrick Heiniger to hand in Billions of Swiss Franc under his management, money that could well be endowment destined for charity works and pension for watchmakers at Rolex watch company. We know what's the endgame of the scheme.

Moreover, his $300/hr SP and your $20/pop streetwalker will perform basically the same task too and both will bring their respective clients to pretty much the same happy ending;)
The only problem with your response is that a $300 SP is more like a Timex than a Rolex. The $20 streetwalker is the watch that comes in your box of corn flakes.

FYI, per annual, joint undercover investigative report by CTV's W5 and APA, Green & Ross is known to be top on the list when it comes to customer complaints and bait & switch tactics.

Only financial "advisers"/salespersons and car dealerships have identical low reputation.
I'm not quite sure here. Is G&R really good with customer complaints and bait & switch or really bad? All I know with ne they try to oversell their business/service and as a result lost it.

I suggest G&R are really bad, first hand experience and will never use them again.

I grant you that $300/hr SP is not the most exclusive one, but isn't it the same with the Rolex? I stand by my comparison.
Timex is an MP where truck drivers stop for a quick fix spending less than $100.

I went to Birks today and they have TAG Carerra for $3700. She was offering me 10% off as well. If I go to other stores who sell the same watch, is it possible to get better price? Or, pretty much they are the same price across the board? Are the prices in Birks negotiable?

10% just means she wants to talk and is a basic offer to see if you'll bite, Find another place like Suisse or European Jewllers and compare the start talking.

I know European Jewellers. They have one on Yorkdale mall. But, what is Suisse? I tried to google it, but couldn't find it. Did you mean LaSwiss? LaSwiss doesn't carry TAG.

I did mean LaSwiss. Aside from the better malls try the Bloor Yorkville area but they're catering to people who don't care about money so don't think about bargaining. Try Humbertown Jewelers, they're out of the way in a small plaza but near money. Call them to see if they carry TAG. They do carry different things. Yes to a web site.

Blackrock my recent visit to Rolex in Yorkville indicates that up to 20% off retail is no problem, even before discussions became serious...given my SO and and I were wearing $30Kish worth of them at the time...were it a Tuesday morning perhaps more off? FYI, Rolex has nothing hot out for a few months. BTW a hot lady cop in there was staring like wtf!!!! These people spend this on watches lol...wish I had her card! She was smokin'
Well, at least somebody is getting it. Another good time to buy is at the end of a quarter or a months for shops that are commission orientated, although you usually only find out about that after some time spent and trust is laid out AND you bring coffees. Although if you show too much blink they might wtf is with you and 'can you take a bit more off the price'. You look like you can afford it ymf.

I'm not in the class of buying$10k watches, but I do like to hold them and fondle them. I also remember the last friend who treated himself to a finer piece in that range, showed it off in a bar one night, and he was relieved of it before the night was over.

At $10k, 20% is not unrealistic. The store/salesman still takes in $3000.00 profit. A wise man said 60% of something is more than 100% of nothing.

so you guys are saying that if I go to places like Birks or European Jewelery in the Yorkdale mall, negotiating a price is expected by the sales reps? and you can negotiate 20%?? that seems a lot for unadvertised sales? no?

Not just anyone can do it. It does take some skill and knowledge. If you look like a a schlemiel and act like one, it ain't goin' to happen. As far as negotiating being expected, more like not frowned on; again depending on you delivery.

When you've had some experience buying products that are a cut above the mass market, you'll realize that everything is negotiable.

It was 7-10 years ago man, if not longer. I don't remember sorry.
i mean was it like Cape Town or Caracas or Jane and Finch? And how an adult man can be relieved of a watch? Details are in order.

I call BS. If a shlemiel and you walked into a store and looked at $10K piece and he claimed having only $7,000 on him he would have no less of a chance to get 30% off than you, no matter what are you wearing and what's your spiel is.
