However I still cheer for them because I am a born and raised Torontonian and I will always support my town/ country/ teams/ government, etc.
This is always the most absurd point I find Leaf fans love to parrot
"Your" team??? Really? What input do you have into how they are run?

In this day and age I can not fathom how a Leaf fan insists on watching two dead weights collide instead of changing the channel to watch a vastly superior game
Everyone knows the ACC is packed with corporate shills who get freebie tickets, the average family could never afford to attend a game

Sports are at best entertainment
No difference than a movie (would you watch a crappy movie solely because it had a local director and filmed downtown over a great film?)

Funny (but true) story; the average Leaf fan never even saw players like Gretzky or Lemieux in their prime
Back then people had such limited tv channels there was no choice
Today you actually can change the channel...

ahhhh another negative opinion... Lol how could i be a corporate shill ? Your right - i haven't contributed any input into how they are run. However that does not mean that I'm not going to watch them LOL. I honestly laugh so hard when people try to twist words around on the internet lol. Yes I say my team because I am from the GTA so I can say that. You have your opinion and I have mine... i prefer to look at life from a positive aspect- judging by your posts ; your the opposite ;) . Regarding your post about movies - i have seen good and bad movies so that point is irrelevant because there is good / bad games in sports too. Regarding your post about gretzky - i have seen gretzky play; my mom was a major hockey fan and my bro played hockey - so whenever he was home and there was a leaf game on you bet it was on TV regardless of who was winning.

Bell and Rogers are happy but what does BNS get for $800 million? Is having your name on the door worth that much money?
I am quite sure the guys that run a huge and hugely profitable bank know their business a hell of a lot better than we do and they are obviously confident that they will get a good return on this investment.

I don't even think that it is worth questioning the wisdom of their decision.

Have never been to the ACC and never will. I have no interest in sports and would never pay the kind of prices to watch them. Went to Skydome once to watch a Jays game, they lost, but that was only because a friend of mine had free tickets and was long before Rogers acquired it. I hate Rogers so won't be going there again.
Maybe some ethnic group will find something wrong with that statue and protest that it be removed. Seems to be the norm in North America lately.
Thank you for 2 posts that add absolutely nothing to the discussion. And that goes double for the second post and your unwanted political commentary.

Thank you for your post shack :) Yes I believe Scotiabank knows what theyre doing with this investment. I just hope when the agreement is done it goes back to ACC. However they can change the name all they want.. To me and many other Torontonians it will always be the ACC :)
Not according to their earnings/profitability. They know what they are doing and anybody who thinks they don't is "dumb as fuck".

Actually sports are one of the greatest evils in our society...
IMO, better that people display their tribalism and need for competition in a controlled environment.

And through sports I learned a ton about teamwork, critical thinking, balance, following rules, and a bunch more.

Well said basketcase . Sports can teach people a lot of things especially teamwork . They always have to learn how to work together regardless if they win or lose. That is what makes or breaks a team. I honestly don't understand how sports are considered " evil" ... I mean - has anyone seen the news lately? Like I said though to me the ACC will always be the ACC regardless of the name change.

We evolve and change with time. Or you get left behind. Change is good, it offers new opportunity to evolve, solve problems and bring future change.

lol judging by your posts your a negative person. No that's not what I'm saying about "real sports fans" what I'm saying is that they are PASSIONATE & who are you to tell them what they can / can not do? No one died and made u god. If you don't act like that - cool, all the power to you ; but you have no right calling other people idiots. IMHO
You're right, I am a negative person to some extent. The way society is nowadays and our useless fucking Gov't, has made me this way. As far as telling people what they can and cannot do, I'm not doing that. If people want to act what I call idiots while watching sports, let them. I don't give a fuck cause I won't be anywhere near them. I do whatever I want and say whatever I want and if people don't like it, they can fuck off and die because I don't care about them. I care about what concerns me and my family.

As for the name change, who cares what it gets called. It's all about the money.

That's one of the most absurd things I've heard. I didn't realize you had to have input into how they're run to cheer for a favourite hockey/sports team. Does that go for fans of all sports teams?

In this day and age I can not fathom how a Leaf fan insists on watching two dead weights collide instead of changing the channel to watch a vastly superior game
Which vastly superior game are you referring to? You do know the Stanley Cup is in the top 5 of the hardest trophies to win, if not the most difficult.

Everyone knows the ACC is packed with corporate shills who get freebie tickets, the average family could never afford to attend a game
If you can't afford to go, you can always watch it on TV. And your point is?

Sports are at best entertainment

Anything people pay to watch can be considered entertainment. I don't begrudge people for watching sports or anything else I don't find particularly entertaining. Why do you?

Funny (but true) story; the average Leaf fan never even saw players like Gretzky or Lemieux in their prime
Back then people had such limited tv channels there was no choice

That would depend on the age of the fan. I sure as hell saw Gretzky and Lemieux, along with many other greats.

I can't wait for the first Leafs game, watching future greats with the likes of Matthews, Marner and Nylander to name a few.

What I really don't understand why people like you feel obligated put down someone's choice of sport or that of their favourite team. If someone likes to watch cricket, I'm like, good for you. Even though I don't find it particularly interesting. At the same time, I don't basically call them an idiot for their choice.

that is extremely disturbing... Gameboy27 some people just don't get it.... best not to feed into the drama

You would be an exception
Most hockey parents are terrible
I see toddlers (like 6+) being woken up and driven to arenas at 5AM in the morning
I see parents fight each other and refs (gotten so bad they even post signs now)
I see it as a total waste of money and ridiculous commercialism ($50 for a team t-shirt really?) then people wonder (and cry) when someone buys a jersey from Pacific Mall
And lets not even get into the long list of sexual abuse scandals (rivals the church for christs sake)

Cheering for your FAVOURITE team is a totally different concept than ALWAYS cheering for the HOME team
I made that quite clear earlier

lol what???
We only have 3 (maybe 4) major leagues so how is hockey only in "top 5"?
And as for degree of difficulty, 16 out of 31 teams qualify for playoffs, might as well say 16 of 30 since Las Vegas is expansion, so you have far better odds than say baseball or football to win it all.
Even basketball is harder as dominant teams are far more dominant despite similar odds.

That would depend on the age of the fan. I sure as hell saw Gretzky and Lemieux, along with many other greats.
At best even if you were rich you could attend 2 games per year and get another 10 or so on TV
If the Great One scores 90 goals in a season or 66 has his point streak you missed most of it
Sad thing is no video of most of their exploits exists either
Oh and throw Islanders dynasty in as well, but at least the Canadiens played them so we saw some of it

Remember Kessel? The great Leaf wanted out so he could play meaningful games

The long playoff grinds could actually shorten his career. It's really hard on the body to go 4 playoff rounds after a long regular season.

If they cheer for their home team what makes you think that's the only team they cheer for? I have many teams I cheer for ...

For example hockey : Toronto maple leafs and Detroit red wings.
Soccer : Poland, Ireland, Portugal, Italy and spain
basketball : Toronto Raptors , Miami Heat, La Lakers & Golden State warriors

Fans cheer for many different teams they do not only cheer for one , I mean they can but I'm sure its unlikely that they only have one that they cheer for.
