Please don't tell me you're comparing one of the greatest English strikers of all time to Andy Carroll???
Are you referring to Gary Lineker?

That is a hefty sum John Henry paid for a player I've hardly heard anything about. As for Suarez, Liverpool got him after Inter bought Il Pazzo instead. Pazzini nearly got a hat-trick in his first match as a black and blue. Edison Cavani is a better striker than Suarez, good luck trying to pry him away from the De Laurentiis family. Juve are going to regret not signing Edin Dzecko - no CL for you!

David Beckham 23

I'll bend it like........
Here's a good perspective on the transfer sum...

Top 10 biggest transfers of all time..

1. Cristiano Ronaldo
(Man Utd to Real Madrid, 2009, £80 million) - Player of the Year

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
(Inter Milan to Barcelona, 2009, £56.5 million)- Serie A Footballer of the Year

3. Kaka
(AC Milan to Real Madrid, 2009, £56 million) - Player of the Year

4. Fernando Torres
(Liverpool to Chelsea, 2011, £50 million) - World Cup Champion

5. Zinedine Zidane
(Juventus to Real Madrid, 2001, £46.5 million) - Player of the Year

6. Luis Figo
(Barcelona to Real Madrid, 2000, £37 million) - Player of the year

7. Hernan Crespo
(Parma to Lazio, 2000, £35.5 million) - Serie A top scorer 2000–01

8. Andy Carroll
(Newcastle to Liverpool, 2011, £35 million)

9. David Villa
(Valencia to Barcelona, 2010, £34 million) - UEFA Team of the Year: 2010

10. Gianluigi Buffon
(Parma to Juventus, 2001, £32.6 million) - Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year

Something just doesn't seem right on this list.

Are you referring to Gary Lineker?
No disrespect to Lineker, love him but Shearer holds almost every scoring record in the EPL. He was better.

The David Villa transfer at a closer look is interesting, Valencia were on the verge of bankruptcy and he really wanted to go to Barcelona, hence the discount rate whereas any other club that fee would much higher.

Arsenal are fools if they get less than 50 million.
Oh, it will be worth more than that, rest assured. Mi Blaugrana wants him back, he wants to go back and think of this...

...Barca Midfield: Xavi, Cesc, Iniesta....

How much is that worth?

After all, like the Catalan media said: "It's not everyday Barcelona wins the World Cup!

Others clubs made the headlines but Inter may have won the January sweepstakes. Here are the players they picked up last month:

Giampierro Pazzini - Opportunistic striker with deceptive pace and strong aerial skills, will partner well with Eto'o. Already has three goals in two matches for Inter.

Andrea Ranocchia - Chelsea paid 21 million euros for David Luiz but the Frogman is the better defender. Jonathan Biabiany was sent to Genoa as part of the deal.

Houssine Kharja - Workhorse midfileder with a scoring touch, scored in his first match with Inter. Sulley Muntari sold to Sunderland.

Yuto Nagatomo - Very impressive first season in Serie A with Cesena; could be the dark horse pick if he continues his positive development.

As a Reds supporter I have gone from feeling ok Torres just made a business decision as to where he thinks he can win, to plain old shut the fuck up guy, you are obviously a mercenary just like 99% of footballers. The guy grew up an Atletico Madrid fan, but it wouldn't surprise me if he eventually plays for Real, money is one thing, honour is something else.

Conflict of interest?

The Roma Red Sox?

Investment banker and part owner of Fenway Sports Group; Thomas R Di Benedetto is about to add AS Roma into his portfolio. If he can do for The Capital Club what Toronto raised Sergio Marchionne has done for FIAT then I support the sale. However as part owner of the umbrella company that controls the Boston Red Sox, would he not also be a minority owner of Liverpool?

I had no idea that Sven was such a cut up.

I'm not a Liverpool fan but Torres leaving for Chelsea was rather disappointing. Once Rafa left, I think the writing was somewhat on the wall. Unfortunately for them they haven't been able to replace Xabi Alonso. I wonder if Reina is next now that the Spanish influence is no longer there. Too bad they weren't able to hold onto Mascherano either, I guess he counts his money while picking those splinters out of his ass though.

uggh, people need to stop gushing over this Rooney goal. Yes it was a nice goal, but the press are making it out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's not the first ever bicycle kick ever scored! Been a few in Serie A this season as well and didn't get any fanfare. If Man City tied it, that goal wouldn't have been so over-freakin-hyped!!

Someone needs to explain to me how this guy is referred to as "legendary"? With the exception of a couple of nice spells with PSV and Barcelona, he is a very good player at best. He could have been a legend but discovered how much he liked fatty foods and late night clubs in Madrid
He got fat because he suffered from hypothyroidism during latter stages of his career

Arsenal 2, Barcelona 1.

That is all.
Great game. I thought the Gunners played better in the second half (obviously) than the first. I have all the respect in the world for Wenger (Mourinho can't even shine his shoes) so I expected a great game.

Now back to Camp Nou with an away goal for my Blaugrana. Very interesting indeed.
