Sounds like you've picked up one of those pieces of malware that now tries to make the situation worse by telling you to "click here" to clear up the problem. Of course, that just downloads more crap onto your machine.

If your machine will allow you to go to http://www.malwarebytes.com you'll find the free version does a pretty good job at clearing out the crap.

If you cannot navigate to that site, or any other antivirus sites, download a copy of the executable file from the malwarebytes site onto another machine and then burn that file to a cd. Then run the cd on your infected machine.

Good luck.

I would consider switching to Avast but for right now its a case of where if it works, don't fix it.
Agreed!
Both AVG & Avast are excellent free AV apps that rank well with the best paid AV apps. Another to consider, though I haven't tried it yet is Avira AntiVir Personal, Free Antivirus, which also gets high marks from www.download.com

McAfee is just as bad.
My new Vista laptop came with a 60 day free demo of McAfee.
Tried it out, just for the heck of it.
After 25 days McAfee started spamming me several times a day, to renew/pay for a subscription saying the demo expired! It got so annoying I removed McAfee and put in Avast.

Anyone tried the security suite that Rogers is switching customers to? I'm paranoid to go with it, I'm thinking they may use it to spy on my downloads, not that they're not already doing that, but I'm wondering if this new suite is going to make it easier for them.

I personally use NOD32 by ESET because it uses the least amount of resources and it has one of the quicketst scan times around but I'd have no problem recommending AVG to anyone.

Really Retired.....REALLY!
I have been using AVG Free for, it's gotta be 10 yrs now.
Never had a problem.

The only time I have been infected with a virus was when I was running Mcaffe years ago. Got rid of that in a hurry, peice of junk. And as has been said Norton is too much of a hog so I never bothered with it either.
