Nicely said, reminds me of the old expression "you are better off with the devil you know". An ex co-worker was telling me how he was Dj'ing in Thailand and the girls would approach him at the end of the night to pay his bar bill.

I keep commenting on this, but the reality of a 20 y/o girl beauty falling in love with 50 year old foreigner is slim. Most cases she won't even want to kiss you. I've seen young girls holding hands with 60 y/o guys and they just have blank looks on their faces.

Most cases we are just an ATM to them, I spent a couple weeks with a young Phillipino chick and I did start to develop feelings for her, it's hard not to, but there was always these sublties that every so often you would be reminded that we are just money to them. Whether it be to buy their friends drinks, or buying them something else, or being reminded of tipping her when I was leaving to come home.

Sometimes that 50 y/o wife that is starting to look wrinkled and old but still wants to be with you is better than a 20 y/o that can't wait for you to die so she can be left all your money. I might sound bitter, that's not the case, just warning some people of the realities of these places.

People are people everywhere - some are good some are bad. Do your homework (read read read - lots of stories to learn from) and make sure she's the one.

At least if things go sour in Thailand or Philipines (and assuming you didn't buy property etc etc), you can still walk away, free and clear.

Panama is a little more expensive as well. BQ is as hot as the seventh circle of hell, but does have the beaches. You're right about the violence being isolated. You are right, when I was over there I thought you just throw anything on and go out and pick up girls, but they do look at how we dress and they do dress better than most girls here.
