Yes, he's as nerdy as you think he is, but it gives him a sort of "Everyman" charm.......if every man had $50+ Billion.
Yes, he never wears a tie and his sweater looks like it's $25 from Walmart to go along with his nerdy hair which kinda works for him.

While we did not sit at the same table I can say I met him. We were both in the BA First arrivals lounge at LHR one morning and sat at adjacent tables. Did the perfunctory good morning, good flight type conversation briefly then he went back to his paper. Was funny to sit so close and have the room full of people looking over knowing that they're all thinking " Is that really Bill Gates". He seemed one to avoid a lot of flash. Amazing when you think about how much his personal wealth increases with each passing minute. He likely made more on the flight over than most third world countres are worth.

Obviously, its because when you're rich and famous, and have all the money in the world and don't have to work night shifts or 9-5 shifts and dont have to stress and worry about hydro bills, etc etc...
you get to party all day and night long
