Blue Jays likely to sign Santana or Jimenez

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays are a "leading candidate" to sign either Ervin Santana or Ubaldo Jimenez.
The Blue Jays' two first-round draft picks -- Nos. 9 and 11 -- are both protected, so they'd only have to forfeit a second-rounder (and the accompanying pool money) to sign either pitcher. The club has also talked to the Cubs about a trade for Jeff Samardzija as they attempt to upgrade their rotation. At last check, both Santana and Jimenez were looking for $17+ million per season.

Sign 'em both. As fans we should not be concerned with them increasing the payroll even if they overpay. They'll never beat the Yanks or Sox without spending. Rogers is loaded. Let them give us some enjoyment (hopefully) with their money.

Also supposed to be interested in cubs Jeff Samardzija. Good to hear that they are increasing payroll but not sure any of those being talked about will be significantly better than current line-up and possibles. Sounds like to get a future ace such as Price Jays would need to give up their best remaining prospects. That would seem to be a price they are unwilling to pay.

Would be nice to think therefore that Morrow will be much better on his return, as will Dickie who finished the season better than he started, and that one of Hutchison, McGowan, Drabek, Jeffress (if they stretch him out), Sanchez or Stroman will force their way into the line-up. At the very least they will have much better depth than last year and a much better ability to deal with injuries as they will inevitably occur through the season.

Might be better therefore for them to focus on getting a second baseman, as that was a really weak position offensively and at times defensively last year.

AA never seems to do what the experts or insiders say he is going to do. So as much as I would like to see these guys in Jays uniforms, I think you just have to sit back, wait and hope he he comes up with something that WORKS!

... Well the Brewers just signed Garza to 4 years and 52 Million

I was wrong ~ I was pretty-confident that he'd be comming to us.
I'm not bummed about Tanaka - I didn't want him.

Hoping for Jimenez now. Apparently Santana gives up a lot of HRs which would not be good for our HR loving park.

The a rod suspension is not a good thing for baseball. It gave yankees alot more money to spend. Im neutral between santana and jimenez. Jimenez has control issue as well.
