Brett Favre traded to NY Jets

Didn't the Jets also win 11 games as a fairly young team only two years ago? They were expected to suck but played quite well.

With the o-line upgrades I think this team can win 10 games again, and take its chances in January, albeit quite slim.

I think the Packers management team really blew it. No doubt that Favre is a drama queen, but you just bite your lip. You can hate Favre, I have no problem with that, but this is just ridiculous timing for them to start to act tough.... they are not the franchise either.

When your a 13-3 team, winning now has to supercede development (at an acceptable degree). I am big believer in the franchise success cycle theories. In this case, your franchise succession is not screwed if you keep Favre, because you not only have Rogers but Brohm as well.

When Favre decided to come back they should have felt like they won the lottery. It improved there chances to win now at no cost. Instead management acted like a bunch of babies as well.... so what if it temporarily screwed up your long-term plans. Your a title contender. Act like it. Your not bigger then the team either. Team success is a combination of players and management success. Management decided they wanted to be the stars.

You're pretty much on the mark scouser1. If they can improve their offensive game they look to be quite strong.

yes this is a team in the same division as the Pats but they are also in the same one as the Dolphins and Bills, look at their sched this year, they have the Raiders,Chiefs,Rams and 49'ers also, a 12 win season isnt completely unrealistic.

I'm not sure if your trying to imply that people think Penningston is better... but in case, no.

Favre is $12M player. Teams are not interested him in a backup at that price, and if they have committed alot to another QB won't risk it either. Pennington will probably come cheap ... several teams would be interested in him as a backup now, but not at this prior price tag. Hence the "interest"

The Jets can trade him to the Vikings... but they would then owe the Packers three first round picks, as per the terms of the deal.

Believe me, I would love to see a 12 win season. And I agree the upgrades at offensive line will hopefully help the running game. I will always cheer for the Jets, but I really do not think this is a strong team. I will consider this team a success at 8-8 and then go from there etc. However, how many more years will Farve play? I just do not see the short term benefit of having Farve here, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

There was no short or long term benefit with Pennington. Favre only cost a draft pick, and will sell seats and merchandise in the short term. I don't see how they could pass him up.

The Bills are a better team than the Jets, they went 7-9 last year with a ton of injuries, had the toughest schedule in the league and have upgraded with free agents in the off season. They also have pretty much the same schedule as the Jets(an easy one). I see them winning at least 10 games.

I think that for the first time in many years, Favre is really motivated to play football. Physically he still has the tools. Mentally he wants to prove the Packers wrong, and throw it in their face.

I think that the only thing that will prevent him from having an awesome year is injury.

I really hope that he gets hurt. I think he really sucked with the way that he has handled his retirement.

Pro athletes must have a pretty healthy ego to get that far... Favre's actions in this off season proved that his ego is as big as it gets!!!!

As far as Favre's motivation, don't underestimate that ego... He wants to prove to everyone that he can carry a team all by himself!!!

I don't think that the Jets receivers are great, but they are not that bad..

If Favre starts off well, I think that he is going to have great stats this year.

We will see how it plays out in due time.

I know all the Favre fans will disagree with me on this but with the way Chad Pennington is playing this season, he is easily the 2nd best off-season acquistion , a close 2nd to Favre. If Pennington was still with the NYJ I'm not so sure that they wouldnt have a similar record. The Jets made A LOT of offseason additions even BEFORE getting Bret Favre. I am just saying that if Pennington was still with the Jets and he was playing the way he is playing now with the Fish the Jets would have a similar record IMHO.

I was hoping he would suck too... but he is physically able to play great football. So far his motivation to prove himself has not been overcome by his desire to be the hero and make stupid plays.... well, a few bonehead plays ended up being spectacular plays, but so far he has stayed in the playbook.
