It is a bill PROPOSED"For the first time, this bill makes the purchase of sex illegal and therefore prostitution illegal"
I fucking told you so.
There. I said it.
I just called my MP and then wrote to him:
I first would like to apologize for this short and somewhat messy email, I didn't realize until moments ago that there is a debate in the house this afternoon, and I wish I'd had time to sort through my thoughts and write them in a more clear, concise and coherent manner. I will write again when I've had a chance to sort through all that I'd like to say, (this is the just the tip of the iceberg!) so having said that, please take the time to read these few points:
I'm not sure if you're aware, but despite our constituency riding being a small and rural one, this bill affects some of your residents.
I am an independent sex worker, I've been working in the industry for six years and I am very happy. I am not exploited, abused, marginalized, trafficked, or underage. I am a mature, independent, free thinking woman, who enjoys the company of a man very much, but chooses not to maintain a conventional relationship.
I am educated formally in Legal Office Administration, and I've studies other fields since, but I've worked in many varied industries, from food & beverage service, to disaster restoration and everything in between.... and now to sex work.
I can truthfully say that I have been treated very badly by some employers and managers in many positions, more in food & beverage service than in any other. Long hours, no breaks, pretentious customers, late nights, early mornings, poor working conditions, negligent safety standards, and the kicker ... all that for minimum wage.
I've never felt LESS exploited than I do right now, as an independent sex professional.
Am I 'trapped' in sex work? Would I exit sex work if I had options? Good question. I have bills to pay, like most. I have a future to plan, like most. I have a retirement to save for, like most. Are you trapped in your job? Would you exit if you had options? Wouldn't we all just leave our job if we didn't have to stay?
Enough about me, now lets talk about my clients. The gentlemen who visit me are not perverts. They are our brothers, fathers, sons and friends. They are often so lonely, it brings a tear to my eye. They are in need of compassion, closeness, a feeling of intimacy, They aren't abusive to me, they are kind and gentle, and they are so grateful for what I am providing. It's not all about sex.
Please take these thoughts with you today as you debate on my future. Thank you for taking the time to read my email.
Please don't make myself and the men I adore criminals.

I also read that a couple of days ago on a tabloid newspaper."For the first time, this bill makes the purchase of sex illegal and therefore prostitution illegal"
I fucking told you so.

SP's, if you see any of your conservative MP clients clapping for this I suggest you out them. I know you have them. PM me if you wish.
