Hey if Ben Lombardi thinks so then it must be right. Tangible evidence please, not opinion of some guy at Dept of National Defence.Other Wanderer said:Since I can't declassify the CIA, maybe this will help ...
from "Algeria and the Paradox of Democracy" ...
We should therefore reflect upon the strategy adopted by the Algerian regime, which bears an uncanny resemblance to those adopted at the insistence of the CIA by military regimes in South America (e.g. Chile and Nicaragua). According to Ben Lombardi, who is with the Directorate of Strategic Analysis at the Department of National Defence in Ottawa, Canada: “In 1991, the West supported the coup in Algeria ... ”

Yeah right! Your head is so up your ass!TQM said:Nevermind the fact that the U.S. has been, since WW2 - the single greatest force in favour of democracy - in the Soviet Union, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, East Germany, and also China - having already mentioned Egypt and Kuwait. No country has done more to promote democracy in history! Not one!
France for one, is there a longer list of failed colonies than the French colonies.....osanowo said:Yeah right! Your head is so up your ass!
How about British Colonies you f@?
At least the independence given to the colonies was not based on economic reasons! The politics of the US has never been for democracy, they have always sponsored rebel groups to do the job in their place - no matter the affiliation!
I do not know any other country that has been so clumsy, opportunist and lacking of personal integrity than the US in their sponsoring choices. But yeah you're right they are for democracy.
No, I'm not that mad!TQM said:are you saying the British had colonies as a means of promoting democracy? Are you insane?
Well the common wealth had not, to my opinion, that particular goal. It was somehow to bring civilization - and it has made these countries jump centuries ahead.TQM said:Britain's goals weren't to spread democracy, right? As for transitions, I can think of a few transitions that didn't go so smoothly for Britain. (And it wasn't a French goal either....)
