I just I'm a little inept in the pizza department. What's so special about Chicago deep dish?
Nothing if you are from Buffalo

Isn't "chicago deep dish" sorta like a very thick crust style pizza?

No, it isn't like that. The edges of the crust are built up like a wall and the pizza crust is filled up with all the toppings & cheese. Think of a torte, with a taller outer crust - it's more like that, but pizza.

I've looked for this in Toronto as well. Seems like there's a void in terms of this type of pizza here. The closest place I know that does this is Chicago Pizza located in Hamilton.

Whats the best Pizza place in Toronto?
Dante's Italian Food in Thornhill - best in my opinion, not cheap but really good eating with quality ingredients

Vesuvio's in the Junction, it wins the Star's annual contest......it's noted for its thin crust pizza though.

Everywhere
You can order Lou Malnati's frozen pizza. I used to have so many requests everytime I flew anywhere I carried these on a plane (I lived in Chicago). But they also ship their frozen pizzas.

http://www.loumalnatis.com/ (Click on Order Tastes of Chicago!)

Not sure if they deliver to Toronto, but they would deliver it in a Fedex insulated compartment box.

My fav in Chicago, by far is still Gino's East (Corn crusted deep dish)

I had it once in Chicago at Pizzeria Due. As I remember, real deep dish pizza has to bake for a good 45 mins. This could be one reason we don't see it here.

Mothers? LOL That brings back memories. I remember the one in Mississauga right beside the Ponderosa Steak house.
