Diana, you are the only pie that's worth the drive to Hamilton!Amazon_woman said:I agree! I lived right around the corner from that place when I was a teenager and we'd go there quite often for dinner. It's a tiny, family-run place on Upper Sherman. Always seems to be busy.
The pizza is the best! The linguine with white clam sauce is also excellent!
Try the stracciatella soup as well. Yummmmmmm!
Definitely worth the drive to Hamilton!

Was thinking the same question as I was reading the first page of posts.Jimmy C said:Anyone remember Frank Veteres Deep Dish Pizzas? I don't know how they went out of business but damn good for a chain.
Gabriel's is not consistant in quality. For the most part, they are very good but I have had a few not so good pizzas from them.sailorsix said:Gabrials in Ottawa. Nothing in Toronto comes close.
I have to agree with the doctor about Dante's. When I worked in Markham it was a Sunday ritual to order Dante's and since I have not been in Markham I have not had Dante's. Sundays are just not the same without Dante'sdrrogers said:Dante's Italian Food in Thornhill - best in my opinion, not cheap but really good eating with quality ingredients

Just an observation: gotta love a gal who loves the "white clam sauce"Amazon_woman said:I agree! I lived right around the corner from that place when I was a teenager and we'd go there quite often for dinner. It's a tiny, family-run place on Upper Sherman. Always seems to be busy.

I agree. I had it last spring at Pizzeria Uno in downtown Chicago. The waiter explained that everything was cooked to order and had to bake for 45 minutes.I had it once in Chicago at Pizzeria Due. As I remember, real deep dish pizza has to bake for a good 45 mins. This could be one reason we don't see it here.
Loved the Frank Vetere's location in London (Oxford. west of Wonderland) when I was still in school.Anyone remember Frank Veteres Deep Dish Pizzas? I don't know how they went out of business but damn good for a chain.
That is a name i have not heard in ages ... big steins and good pizza.Anyone remember Frank Veteres Deep Dish Pizzas? I don't know how they went out of business but damn good for a chain.
If you are in the LA area, this place kicks ass:

In San Jose, this is the best I've found:

Vesuvio's in the Junction, it wins the Star's annual contest......it's noted for its thin crust pizza though.
You CAN Fed-Ex from Shwartz's in Montreal by the way.You can order Lou Malnati's frozen pizza. I used to have so many requests everytime I flew anywhere I carried these on a plane (I lived in Chicago). But they also ship their frozen pizzas.

Not sure if they deliver to Toronto, but they would deliver it in a Fedex insulated compartment box.
My fav in Chicago, by far is still Gino's East (Corn crusted deep dish)
Papasmerf you're must clue me in to the culinary delights of Buffalo.Pizza is a regional thing
Here in Buffalo we have different pepperoni, it gets crisp as we bake it. So to me that sandwich crap they use elsewhere is awful. That said deep dish can be wonderful if is not a soupy mess in a pie shell. You need to make a pie so thick that 2 pieces will bring the biggest man to his knees.

I was at the hockey game friday night and, quite frankly, I'm getting tired of the Anchor Bar.
Ottawa does have decent pizza but not much else. For the nation's capital it's somewhat generic; you cant even get Calabrese bread there.
