Haven't seen the movie yet (there was a sneak preview on Sunday) but I did watch them build and subsequently tear down the set for the exterior shots of Madison Square Gardens. It was kind of neat actually - they did a really good job and there was a lot of attention to detail. For example, there's a hat store just next to the entrance to MSG - the hats actually had price tags on them! I would imagine you probably can't see the prices on the screen but they were there on the props.

MSG by the way is the south side of The Bay downtown (Richmond & Yonge).

Is Cinderelleman suppose to portray a real person? Who is it? Given that its a Ron Howard production, its gotta be another "great-American" story. Sorry, I just find his movies so cliche.

I guess the story of a down and out boxer has never been done.

Million Dollar Baby, Rocky 1-50, Raging Bull etc..etc... I'll wait for the DVD.

I agree!! It was amazing what they were able to do with that set. I drive Richmond to work everyday and looked forward to passing "MSG" on my way to work.

I am not a big fan of Russell Crowe the person however as an actor he can be outstanding. Ron Howard tends to get great performances out of him as he did in A Beautiful Mind. The buzz is that Crowe's performance is outstanding.

Also he has been photographed a number of times wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs hat so he can't be all that bad of a guy!! ;)

It was filmed in the old maple leafs arena, I work around the corner and last summer there was tonnes of people dressed in old vintage stuff standing around. I asked one of the security guys and he said that russel and rene was filming a prequel to glad-her-ate-her.

Had I known it was a boxing movie I would I jumped in ring wooped russel and taken rene as my woman.

I just think to myself, what a waste of time, material, labour to make a disposable movie that will be forgotten in a few years. The landfills get fuller with the tossed sets while a few people get millions of dollars richer. The lives of thousands of people were disrupted to create this priority while nothing permanent remains.
At least there were no infernos or explosions to pollute our city.

But I'll check it out if the reviews are good.
