How do classy and a dish often requiring a bib belong in the same sentence? Go for ambience, even a bit raucous but fun. Lobster's only classy when the servants do the fun stuff for you, outtsight.

Lol exactly! Tie the bib on and let 'er rip. I love the crab shacks with newspaper on the table and a little sledge hammer lol. Plus a big bowl of butter.

Don't think that's what the OP's looking for though, so best to stick with the finer dining establishments as already mentioned; Octagon, La Castille, etc. for great tails.

Not sure if it's on the menu every night but I have had amazing lobster tails a couple times at Toula - top of the Westin Harbour Castle. Nice ambience too and fantastic views from the tables by the windows.

I have been going to the Lobster Trap on Avenue Rd., south of Wilson for years. Top notch meal and small restaurant but good ambience.

Ceiling Cat - you MUST to to O Mei at Highway 7 and Valleymede. They do giant lobsters. One beast is cooked 5 different ways. A culinary delight.

I find lobster and "classy" to be counter-intuitive. A classy place charges you an arm and a leg, and will only serve you the tail. Lobster is something to eat with your hands and get messy with. I'd rather go to the Lobster Trap or Lobster Royale and get smelly.
I know O Mei but haven't been there in a while.

I once got food poisoning there from a bad old lobster in the tank. It's more casual there also.

Petz,

Rabbi Gershom said that your food poisoning is just reward for your indiscretion and you must atone. See you at shabbat.

Yea and we all know how good deep fried food is for us! A lot of Cantonese cuisine seems to be deep fried and while tasty(excess fat always adds flavor) i try to avoid fried foods as much as possible. I prefer baked, broiled, grilled or steamed foods.
There are several versions of the lobster dish, you can have stir fried , or stir fried with sauce. I do not think they dunk it in a deep fryer.

We ended up eating lobster salad at Trump. I mistakenly believe the patio on the 34th floor was open but it will not open till August. My bad. But my date was happy.

I've had a lot of really great lobster while working out east. There is nothing to compare in Toronto. Really, there is not.

But the one surprising thing I have learned is that the bigger the lobster, the better. You'd think it would be the other way round and that the big ones would be tough and stringy, but not so.

So don't be afraid to order the 4 pounder. Just make sure that they cut it for you cause you'll need a band-saw.

Oh, and there is an art to boiling lobster I also found out. You must use sea salt, and you must boil it so many minutes per pound and the female lobsters have to be boiled longer. Who knew.

I grilled three 3-4 pounders a few weeks ago. They were delicious. The shells were pretty hard. The lobster crackers weren't enough. I had to breakout my hammer for the claws.

The screeching when I put them on the grill was mildly disturbing.

Any recommendations for a classy restaurant that serves lobster?

The House of Chan on Eglinton has the best lobster and steaks in Toronto. Don't be fooled by the name of the restaurant. owned by some prominent movers and shakers who wanted a restaurant where they could entertain clients. They fly huge lobsters in from Maine daily.
