76% of overall patients
87% of ICU patients
88% of ventilator patients

And that's with Delta. Just wait until Omicron takes over. The only thing the unvaccinated can hope for is that it's less virulent.

I would anticipate that there will still be some protection offered by the vaccine although perhaps not at the 90%+ effectiveness we have enjoyed thus far. Also, if trends continue, vaccines should continue to mitigate the severity of symptoms experienced by those who do get covid. The overwhelming number of hospital admissions will probably continue to be unvaccinated patients.

The pharmaceutical companies will also develop new vaccines to address the variants as they arise…but they are probably gonna be playing catch and chase with the ever-evolving variants for the foreseeable future.

As of Dec 13 Michigan has more covid hospitalizations than at any point since the pandemic started, breaking the records set in November 2020.

75+ fully vaccinated 78.4%
65-74 fully vaccinated 82.5%
50-64 fully vaccinated 68.9%

Would you be able to understand it? Do you have a PhD? I work in healthcare research as a facilitator (in computing database mainly) but I don't know shit about the data I manipulate.

The problem is that the vast majority of us do not know science. We have not studied it. I know computers but nada about the effect of a virus in a human body. What do I do? I shut the fuck up and listen to my doctor and public health. Yes I could go back and pursue an immunology degree or something like that but I'm too old.

I have the humility to confirm I know shit about science. Have you?

For example I also know shit about wine. When I want to impress friend over a good dinner I go to lcbo and ask the expert. Sometimes he's right on. Sometimes a bit less but still beats the craps over what I would have bought.

I will add to your list of prolonged lockdowns, masking etc. Postponed or cancelled diagnostic appointments, treatments and surgeries. These include cancer treatments, heart and brain surgeries, hip and knee replacements. And the list goes on...

Unfortunately, that kind of an atomistic consumer model is very common beyond just the anti-vaccine crowd. There is a general problem with people thinking this is a valid model for thinking about public health.
