It isn't attractive, but this goes to the fact that when States consider foreign policy - it comes as a harsh reality that the world is filled with devils: large and small, actively hostile or friendly. Not devils and angels.
A valid point. But in the larger picture is it not better to have a "slightly friendly devil" rather than an "actively hostile devil?" Certainly I'm not arguing that Afghanistan is "angelic."danmand said:

There's plenty of evidence OBL and his Muhjadeen were trained and funded into a well organized militia that helped defeat the late USSR in their 80s Afghan War by the Reagan administration.
