If you're pulling a load, you want a diesel. Don't skimp though, because you always end up pulling bigger loads once you start. You're better off getting the biggest and baddest because it's not going to cost you much more and. I used to yank 5th wheels around with a gas engine, a big one and if I was still hauling them and for distance, I would definitely have a diesel under the hood. I would also go with a automatic transmission though. The auto has better shift points and will pull alot nicer, especially with a tow/haul capability and will make it easier when maneuvering in tight spots.

I agree, the automatic is much more convenient than the manual. Shifting in traffic and city driving (rare) is so annoying and tedious.

Versitile you can have my truck for $3500. I will certify it for you. The only thing it doesn't have on your list is 4x4. But it runs great and hauls like a beast. It's a 1999.

if the truck has the DEF emissions shit on it there is a lot of shit you got to know about it. the DEF tank is heated when the vehicle is running but when you shut it off and it cools down the fluid can freeze below -5. also you can just dump water in the tank, seen it done.
My Dodge doesn't have that DEF tank on it . Nothing to fill . Now the chassi trucks do have that tank.

My truck , 2011 Dodge Laramie 1 Ton , single rear axle , Mega Cab short box 6' 6" box . 6.7 liter engine ...850lbs of ft. 4X4 . It's as long as Quad Cab with a long box . It's one big truck . Need a ladder to get into the box it's so high . All of the options but no Video player in the back seat and no sun roof . Don't need that stuff .

It's hard to park in many small lots but I didn't buy it to go shopping . I wanted the 1 Ton because I plan on up grading my fifth wheel . The RV weighs 10,000 lbs empty . Looking at bigger RV's 33 or 35 ft long with 3 or 4 slide outs . They weight around 15000lbs. No problem for that Ram . It can even handle the extra hitch weight .

If your not pulling super heavy weight stuff then a 3/4 Ton is perfect . We used to use a family members 3/4 ton Dodge and it handled my rig no problem .

Big gas engines are OK except they use more fuel than the diesel engine . Love the diesel Cummings Engine . Half the time on the highway I have to remind my self that I'm pulling a rig .

Automatic for sure. Another reason is the GMC Exhaust brake works with a Automatic nicer. When pulling a heavy load....let the Exhaust brake slow you down rather then using the foot brake.

Duramax....400HP and 765 Foot pounds of Torque.

we have 2 trucks in our fleet that have regen. the rest are old rebuilt cats. i have the exhaust regen and the other truck is 2 years newer than mine and has the DEF fluid. i blow my turbos every year almost to the day of the year before. the '12 pete with the def is the cummins since cat isn't making big truck engines right now (yes i know they are working on it and getting back in the game) and he has blown a turbo off as well. different reasons.

cat actually has a lawsuit brought against it right now for having a faulty engine design in the twin turbo.

Not really looking for used, unless it a dealer demo for a good price. Not to say there's anything wrong with used, I've own my share of them. Pretty much looking for brand new at this point.

Sorry about that, I knew the torque was in the 700s.
My current truck, the Tundra, is 5.7L, 6 speed auto, double cab, 6 1/2 box. 4x4 and TRD off road package. Specs are: 384hp and 402 torque at flywheel. I could be off on the numbers a little. Still, she goes like stink. And the engine/exhaust note, it's almost like a drug. Except my money goes to the gas station. I'm not complaining, it's a truck, and trucks guzzle. Limited slip diff is good off road (only been a couple times and nothing too crazy), but a locking diff would have been nice. Styling wasn't my favourite, but it grew on me. It's never been Toyota's strong suit, engineering has. New Tundra is due out soon, maybe 1-2 years. I would love to keep it and grab the diesel but that's not gonna happen.

I like the longevity of the diesels and the torque you get for pulling uphill. I mean, what was the Duramax rated? 400hp and 725lbs/ft of torque! And the Cummins, I think, is even more powerful. Probably gonna keep it a while. And I'll have to plug it in during the winter.
Fair enough but my experience is the Duramax are more costly to maintain than the Cummns. If your gonna drop all that extra coin go for the Cummins. I spend a lot of time in the fort mac area, pick up capital of the world, all our new units will be gasoline due to cold weather issues and just no need for all that extra power also less expensive to maintain.
