For me, it's either the Ford or the Dodge, with GM/Chevy far behind. Not to say there's anything wrong with GM, more preference than anything. You brought up a good point, JH. Whoever has the best deal at the time will have an advantage. That being said, you can't really go too wrong with any of them, I guess.
I got tired if going through the useless replies but I would recommend GM.

I have owned both the Ford and the GM and find the GM to be a smoother ride as the long wheel base in the ford makes for a rough ride. It's minor but filling the DEF in the Ford is a pain, the GM has a better engine brake with a load and despite the Ford feeling more powerful off the line the GM hauls better at all speeds. If you we're to work on it the GM is much easier as the Fords you basically need to remove the van for anything serious. This is all based on the 2010 years and above.

Pre 2010 in the Fords I've had trouble with the trans and always had a bad idle due to the egr. Dodge would be best bang for the buck but I would still go with GM just for styling.

I didn't have the diesel, but I just got rid of my Ram Laramie (08). It was a great truck. Beautiful ride, very reliable, never caused me any trouble. If you're leaning towards the Cummins, I'm sure you'll be happy with the Dodge.

Best engine in the group for sure. Don't need a dually either, gonna use it to plow my driveway at home (long driveway) and at my business. Your input is much appreciated, thanks.
ya......you don't need a dually. More pig on gas because of the larger axle ratio. Stay away from duallies if you really don't need it. I made that mistake once.

For looks, style.....i like the f350's. The international engines are not bad. They only had problems with the 6.0L powerstroke engine. But the newer engine after 2008 model are quite good and very silent engines. I think its alot quieter than the cummins or duramax engines. cummins is the best engine........but i'd rather go for looks and vanity, with a decent engine. I hate anything chrysler, vanity wise.

Leaning towards Ford. I feel the same way about Dodge's styling. It hasn't been altered drastically for 15+ years, with that big rig look. Still not an ugly truck by any means. Ahhh, if only the Ford came with the Cummins.

it's out in vegas, not up here yet from what he was telling me. has the pulling power and weight limits of a 1 ton but on an f150 body.
Hate the f150 body. Put it on an f350, and i'm buying one.

It's called the Eco-Boost motor and its out already. Heard good things about it but I usually wait a couple years before getting something that new. Gives them time to work out the bugs.

Since I not planning on doing a lot of city driving, the six-speed manual is an option. I know, it can be a pain (traffic, etc.), but they're bulletproof and in 1st gear in idle, you could pretty much pull down a house.

While half tons are plenty capable in work and play, you can't compare one with a 3/4 or full ton truck. I think my towing capacity on the Tundra with my configuration tows like 9,900lbs. or something. When you take a Dodge 3500 dually diesel (which is a lot of truck) I think it's close to 22000lbs! I could be off a touch on numbers, this is from memory, but WTF, more than double? Seriously? Now, realistically I would never have to tow this much, it would nice to be able to tow what I need with confidence.

I drive an F250 diesel. What did you want to know?

I'll tell you what I think of my truck.

It's hard on gas.
It's an uncomfortable ride. When I buy a timmies and put it in the cup holder, coffee ends up all over the place. I've actually thrown out my back a couple times on rough roads.
It's a 2WD, and it's the worst vehicle on the road in slippery conditions. I've gotten stuck in some ridiculous places. OTH, the 4x4's are more maintenance.
It sounds like a freight train.
It's got 440k km's on it and still going strong
I have the extended cab, as opposed to no cab or the full cab. The backseat is just a bench, and uncomfortable as all hell. But I do have the 8 foot bed, except....
While it has been handy for work, I rarely actually use the bed. The most weight I've had in the back is 1700lbs, and it was nothing.
When I haul my boat around, it's like I've got nothing at all attached. It's a beast of a hauler. I also have the turbo for extra power. But again, I'm rarely hauling stuff.
You can't just zip out to the local store. If I want to do that I take my wife's little car. So much faster and easier. Taking the truck out is a mission. Oh yeah, one more point...
Parking is a fucking bitch. I hate parking the thing.

My next vehicle will be smaller, more comfortable and better on gas. While I would prefer another diesel, it's not my driving motivator.

Year? Option package? Major issues? Pluses/minues? You know the whole consumer reports thing. Not too long, though I'm reading/typing this on phone and will probably need glasses real soon.

Just stay away from the 2003 to 2007 diesels which is the 6.0L powerstroke turbo diesel. Any ford diesel 2008 and up are okay.
