Rob Ford is no fan of the Pan Am Games HOV lanes.

Councillor Ford admitted Wednesday that he’s ignored the three-person vehicle occupancy rule and used the “pain in the rear end” lanes.

“These HOV lanes are a complete disaster,” Ford said. “I know I see people just going down the HOV lanes and saying, ‘OK.’ Basically catch me if they can. There were a lot of people I saw that were by themselves.”

Asked if he’s done that, Ford shrugged.

“Me? I’ve gone on the HOV lanes,” he said. “Absolutely, I have. I have to get down here sometimes.

“I’ll just go in and out obviously. You know you’ve got to watch the cops over your shoulder, just sort of bob and weave. Not just me, a lot of people have.”

No, but even Laws must ultimately meet the test of having some minimal connection to common sense and basic concepts of things like fairness or freedom if a society likes to consider itself just and free. Otherwise some pretty horrible things can be legitimized if a group of legislators passes passes a law to cover it.

Of course, HOV laws are pretty low on the list tyranical laws. Then again, violating the HOV law is pretty low on the scale of dastardly offenses.

The imposition of the pan am games and the seizure of public roads for the exclusive use of elites (athletes and officials) calls out for civil disobedience.

Why can a taxi cab driver use the HOV lanes when there are fewer than three occupants? What's special about someone working as a cab driver that gives him the right to use the HOV lanes to get around the city.

Have noticed that about half the cars in the lane have one driver. I've also been tempted to use the HOV lanes.

Think they plan to turn the HOV lanes into toll lanes for individual drivers who want to pay to use them. Notice there is no end date on the signs.

I hate it when the government changes its laws to suit themselves and then changes it back whenever they feel like it. What's so special about the Pan Am games? Second rate sporting event with third rate athletes yet they are now more important than us taxpayers. Gimme a break.

If Ford announced to everyone that he was going to drive on the HOV lane and invited the Toronto police and media to come and witness the event that would be civil disobedience.

What he did instead was look over his shoulder for the cops and then arrogantly and selfishly put himself ahead of others who were abiding by the rules. No better than the guy who drives on the shoulder of the road because he believes he is so much more important than the hundreds of other cars stuck in a jam.

You guys are screwed up if you think that what he did is civil disobedience.
