I was "let go" yesterday from my job as a programmer.
The manager called me into his office and said "Sorry I"m going to have to let you go. I don't think things will work out with you."
I nodded my head in resignation and understanding. Then he told me to pack my stuff. I asked if I could say good-bye to a couple of co-workers, but he said he preferred I didn't. Then he escorted me out the door.
When I checked my company email from home later that night, there was this email sent out to every employee:
Subject: Announcement
***** ****** is no longer employed at ABC Company.
How cold and impersonal is that?
I was hired four months ago, and didn't pass my probationary period, mainly because I made several mistakes. I made those mistakes because I had very tight deadlines and was under stress. I guess my team leader didn't see me as competent.
Anyway, I will move on. I am just kind of stunned and, to be honest, devastated.
It took me years to find this job, and I worked so hard to get it.
