i cant really take any mayoral candidate who gets drunk and belligerent and has to be escorted out of the ACC very seriously. If the guy cant even control himself, how could he possibly make proper decisions for a whole city?
Really???? There are many types of control....

I'll take the drunk over anyone that spends MY MONEY like a drunken sailor any day.....

I'd rather have the streets shut down for a marathon than for a movie film set.

Maybe some of the fat fuckers in their car will see that other people actually can and do exercise, will get off their lard asses, and get some exercise. We have an obesity problem in Canada, after all.

But IF there is a way to take the Marathon's off the Road (or at least portion's of it) and minimize the inconveniece, wouldn't that be better ?

If we want to standout from other Marathon's, we need to find a way to do it better. Wether it can or cannot I don't know, but it's worth looking into.
Hell yes... Why not move all the marathons to the bike path system & have each of the marathoners & the organizers pay a small fee that has an ironclad earmark towards developing the paths to accommodate...

I would hazard a guess that far more people participate in the marathon than are inconvenienced by it.

Why should a minority of lard asses be able to stop a majority from making use of the road?

I'm objectively pointing out that Ford is not the kind of guy who has ever, or will ever, run a marathon.
I think even you would agree that using the term fat fucker was out of line for any sensible discussion.

Which still leaves it in the trivial sector. But thanks foir the lecture on the trivial; nice to know we have a candidate who understands that appeals. Sad to think how many can't see beyond the trivial andit's truly scary to think the front-runner can't either. Even worse though, to imagine he can, but just panders to the LCD.
You know there's a lot of people in this city for whom such events are a massive inconvenience. One mans trivial is another mans major headache.

You have a serious Issue with Fat People don't you Fuji ?

Has it occured to you that some of the people who may be invonvienced are handicapped and therefore have limited mobility issues ?

Well, his heart is in the right place even if his brain isn't. Instead of throwing shit decisions in the air, it would be nice to call the organizers and get some input on why it happens every event of this nature in round the world is held on city streets. But it's an election and knee-jerk statements to curry favor of voters is more important. I'm assuming that the Toronto Indy will be held on bike paths so Rob can shave 15 minutes off his home journey next summer ?

Reminds me of David Miller suggesting that he could cancel the bridge to the island airport and it would not cost one loony. Millions of loonies were picked up by the city for this decision and David Miller had left it behind as a past issue and still got re-elected.

I heard a radio debate but without catching the name of the guy speaking - he was warning George & Rob not to make stupid statements about transit plan changes. Toronto does not pay for the entire cost but looks for support from Ontario & Federal funds. After 5 years of negotiating and finally getting a plan accepted by all levels - why make commitments that could jeopardize stopping the funding and entering a nothing happening phase as they restart from the beginning? Naturally he was ignored by Rob & George. The game is to get elected at any costs. AKA David Miller's bridge.

We should have one signature marathon that closes the streets. All of the other ones should use the parks or bike paths. I don't understand the whole concept behind charity walkathons, marathons anyway. If you want to contribute to a good cause just do it. Why should someone have to walk or run to raise money?

Because:

1. You get thousands of people out contributing in a way that might only take one day of their time.

2. Said thousands of people actively hustle to raise money

3. There are tons of charities out there - when was the last time you looked one up and donated 50 bucks?

4. It's been proven to work.

I realize it does work but it just seems so illogical. The only ones actually making a difference are the ones donating money. The ones walking or running are just getting exercise.

BS, marathons slow traffic down for a FEW people so that MANY can enjoy the streets.

I got royally screwed trying to drive across town yesterday, a half hour drive turned into an hour and a half, but I still think they should be where they are.
They could put up some more signs near the areas, though, that would help.
