It's the origin of the myth. He was the last Templar Knight of import and was burnt at the stake on that particular day for not divulging the Templar secrets.

The Shroud of Turin also came from this time period as the man was wrapped in the Shroud soon after his torture.

As the legend goes, due to the substance used as a whitening agent in that time, the lactic acid that was produced by Jacques' body reacted in such a way as to leave a faint imprint of his body and face.

As Masonic legend goes, the Shroud of Turin is not that of Jesus Christ.

The Templars eventually evolved into what we know today as The Freemasons. They are very rich in history and folklore and many of todays colloquialisms (On the level; Square up; Hood-winked; Slip-shod; and the all time doozy: Getting the third degree) originated from many of the Masonic rituals and sayngs.

The Masons may believe this to be the case but most believe it to be Jesus of Nazareth, however it cannot be proven either way. My only question of the Masonic legend is that if he was burned at the stake, would there really be anything left to wrap, let alone leave an imprint?

Where's Fang when you need him?

</shift to coastal seting>

*Fang's red robe is seen blowing out the back of a convertible driving down the road*

He was tortured then initially released into the custody of a fellow Templar. Due to his wounds, etc., he was wrapped in the shroud.

When it was discovered that he continued to carry on as the supreme Grand master, he was taken into custody once again and forced to renounce his loyalty to the grand lodge.

Upon his refusal, he was burnt at the stake.
