Give me a break! At thirteen, ya know the difference between right and wrong, hell kids that age are having sex already. As a parent, I would say good! That'll teach ya, then ground the kid for a month without any of her fave things!

I can't believe how kids this age talk to adults either. I would never even think to talk to an adult the way my 6 year olds friends do...They are the way they are because parents don't bother. It's hard work raising children properly, at least try to, so they rather not...

Drives me insane! Just my 2 cents

Well at least my faith in the kiddies were restored after this exchange with me niece:

We were making a puzzle and the cat came and sat on our pieces.

Me "Hey cat you'll have to move your big bum"

The 5 year old niece "It's not big, it's a small little hole behind her, it's nothing really......but it stinks real bad."

Knowing the curiosity of kids I can only imagine how she found out.

What a joke,

I think the Mother was more upset that her life was beig interupted and inconvenienced than teh fst that her daughter was caught stealing.
I could just imagine her conversation with the daughter. "how could you do that to me", "How can I go back there now"

I remember when our daughter was about 6, she was at a friends house. She saw a stuffed animal that she really liked, and decided to stuff it in her bag and take it home with her. It didn't take long for us to see this "new toy" and then there was a phone call from the parents asking if we had seen it.

Well, we punished her, and then I came up with an idea to really teach her a lesson. All this happened around Christmas time. Mrs. Wooly went out and bought a toy that our daughter had been saying she really, really wanted. On Christmas, she opened up all her presents and the last one she opened was the toy she really, really wanted.

Her eyes lit up, and there was a huge grin on her face. Before she could get any further to open it up, I took it away from her and said that it was going back to the store, as an added punishment for what she did. She wasn't happy with what we were doing but, she accepted it.

Must've made an impression because we've never had to worry about her stealing ever since.

I really think you are sick to do this at Christmas .

Unlike the Target case your daughter was 6 yrs old and you had already punished her.
I suppose you 2 are real law abiding citizens and never break laws like speeding.

There's a lot more sicker things that are done by people, at any given time of the year, although you are entitled to your opinion.

6 yr olds aren't stupid. They know what's right or wrong if they've been told. So at what point do we fix this then? When she's 13 and stealing from Target? I nipped this in the bud. And, for all of you politically correct out there, I did it without spanking either. Although I'm open to that as punishment too. (Waiting to hear the flack back on that one.)

We are fair, and above all consistant with what we say, when disciplining our kids. When we say it, we mean it.

It seems to have worked. They've grown up to be good kids. They're teens now, and still, so far so good. Mentally and emotionally.

That's pretty well a correct supposition. Although we have broken the speeding laws on occasion. When we get caught, we accept the consequences.
