Fuck Sakes -- Fuck Vista-- Fuck Off

My latest came with Vista pre-installed. Replaced it with XP. Problem solved.

As an earlier post pointed out, I think the problem has more to do with all the crap
Dell and other suppliers put on the PC's. I have Vista, and immidiately reinstalled
without the crap, and the system runs fast and reliable.

There is a decrapifier available on the net, I have not used it, but it has been
recommended here earlier.

that's probably what it is. a friend of mine got a dell and it had so much crap installed on it the computer was slow. remove all the crap that has been installed for you.

Eventually, Windows Updates may end up breaking your Vista beyond any repair...do a search on Google and you'll see the millions of people having this problem.
Vista has a nice 'recovery' function that lets you do a System Restore BEFORE even booting into Windows....DOESN'T WORK!! It's a piece of shit!!! Puts on a nice show, with bells and whistles, but then...NADA!!!

Read from a computer engineer what's causing the probs with the updates...he studied it well after his Vista Enterprise got FUBAR'd...
He found that when you're comp connects to the windows servers to get the updates, the Microsoft servers have probs figuring out which version of Vista you have (it's their own fucking O/S! WTF?!?!?!) and downloads/installs the wrong updates for your version. NICE!!!


So, what's a girl to do? Their O/S has more holes than a bus full of Thai lady-boys, you need the updates to ward against security breaches, but the update may end up fucking you, HARD, like a bus of Thai lady-boys!

OMFG! OMFG! LOL..This happened to me. I HATE VISTA! I downgraded to XP because Vista would no longer work on my computer after installing my updates. After getting a recovery CD shipped to me from my computer manufacturer and having that not work, reinstalling windows 3 times, (don't even get me started about this piracy/genuine Windows bull) then I just downgraded to XP. Too many damn heartaches. My OS was turned inside out because of those damn updates.

Yes, Vista looks pretty (when you can scroll through tiled windows when you ALT TAB -- I am convinced that this is the only good option in Vista...lol) but till/if they fix out the bugs - it is NOT worth the problems.

I'm a computer beginner . I have a 3 year old Dell desktop with windows xp but only 256MB of Ram.

In a year or so when I buy a new computer how many MB of Ram do you need to run Windows Vista properly? With all the horror stories I'm hearing about Vista I guees it's a good thing that I still have Windows XP!

I just installed windows xp service pack 3. Was that the right thing to do? Any replies would be appreciated.

For now, at least 2 GB ram if you wanna run a smooth vista. 1 GB works but is kind of a stretch . Most PC only fiends I know run 4 GB ram with their vista machine.

Now, in a year or so, 2 GB may become a bare minimum for running vista sp X or windows X, and likely would take 4 GB to run smooth, or may be more.

Any 32 bit Windows OS will have little use for over 3 GB of ram. The maximum supported ram for XP 32 or Vista 32 is 4 GB but that extra 1 GB over 3 is not really managed or used by Windows (Vista or otherwise).

You're lacking some precious RAM. Depending on your processor speed you might be better off just bringing up your total RAM to 1 GB and run XP lightning fast. Of course it all depends what you use your computer for.

I just put 4GB of DDR2 ram in my new laptop an upgrade from 2GB of ram.

Here's the results:

32bit Vista will utilize 3.5 of that 4GB.....it's quicker than the original 2GB that it came with.

32bit Ubuntu 8.04 utilizes 3.4 of that 4GB....and it flys faster than both Vista or XP.

32bit openSUSE 11.0 utilizes 3.75 of that 4GB and flys just as fast as Ubuntu.

In fact openSUSE 11.0 is pretty efficient and quick on an 11year old Pent2 PC with 400Mhz and only 384MB of ram!
However openSUSE 11.0 is a bit more complicated to run/use than Ubuntu.

I am actually happy with Vista, even if I complained bitterly at the time
about having to buy a new printer and a new wireless card. I did reinstall the
bare Vista without the crap on.
