This is crap!
For the second time this year my adult children are going to a funeral for someone they grew up with.
Death by misadventure.

KIDS AREN'T SUPPOSE TO DIE BEFORE THEIR PARENTS!!!!!

Natural causes (by that I mean illness), I agree.
Misadventure... these 'adult' friends are the only ones to blame for their untimely death.

So.... young people dying is usually one of:

1. Drunk and reckless driving

2. Drug or alcohol abuse

3. Gang violence

All three are preventable with good parenting.

Sometimes real accidents do happen, but usually there is a reason.

Always blaming the parents is easy/ convenient but quite often the lazy man's answer to this. Every alcoholic did not have bad parents nor did evey teenager who exceeded speed limits or was driving too fast for weather conditions. Nor is every suicide or childhood cancer (or other fatal desease) a parents fault.

The US CDC list the top 5 causes of people from 10 - 24 as:
1. Unintentional injury ( pretty broad category includes traffic accidents, drowning's etc)
2. Suicide
3. Homicide
4. Malignant neoplasm ( cancer)
5. Heart desease

You gotta love TERB. You get to see differences between slimeball nonsense opinions like this:

And thought out, factual and educated opinions like this:

Fuji I know you are just living up to your name and all, but seriously. You think that all parents are responsible for the choices their children make??? Do you know how many 2 parent homes with the SAHM, the corner lot, double garage home, boy in hockey, girl in ringette, with Max the dog and fluffy the cat, style homes still have problem with their children. Every sicko who has murdered someone has parents, guess that is their fault too. I laugh at the "must the parents" fault line all the time. LOL

Anon, I am sorry for your loss.

Except the OP stated death by misadventure ruling out the ones other than what I listed. Pay attention to the thread topic.

Loneliest moment in parents lives is outliving their kids...
That's why I always tell my kids from the words of Richard Steele..."Protect yourselves at all times!"

Have had three occasions in my extended family, where parents have had to bury their child. It's a living hell.

I've been to similar funerals, including some involving relatives (maybe one was complicated by past cocaine abuse, others from cancer, car accidents, etc.)

Yes you get a gold star for comprehensive reading skills, but he also said 'Kids aren't supposed to die before their parents' which opens the door to discuss other causes.

You're right Ms. Fatale.

My younger cousin had a university education, very loving and generous parents (sure he had money, but he was also taught that it came from hard work and a successful family business).

He had a bad coke habit. He was sent to the BF Clinic in Florida. He almost was beaten to death most likely by drug dealers. He returned to Canada (they have a home in Florida). Worked in family business but still had need for blow. They cut back on his funds. He borrowed money. Then they sent him to Europe to isolate him from any bad influences. He met a gal, had a health food business, but later, was found dead in a hotel room. He was only 36. Heavy set, smoker with past coke abuse caused cardiac arrest.

No matter what parents do, some kids fall through the cracks and are incorrigible if I can use that word.

Sure. I was clearly criticizing the parenting in this case, assuming that death by misadventure in this case is one of the usual causes and not a true accident. Let me make my post clearer by making the thread context explicit:

So.... young people dying BY MISADVENTURE is usually one of:

1. Drunk and reckless driving

2. Drug or alcohol abuse

3. Gang violence

All three are preventable with good parenting.

No need to repeat yourself. I read your previous post thank you.

Unfortunately it's not that unusual. Of the 750 or so people my age that I knew while growing up (school classmates, sports teammates, children from my parents' church), I count 24 dead - and those are the ones I know about. I'm 41 years old.

Car accident (3), motorcycle accident (4), suicide (3), cancer (7), cerebral aneurysm (1), murdered (2), heart attack (2), policeman killed in the line of duty (1), liver failure (1).

It make me wonder what made you keep track of these facts.
