I would actually prefer to receive cash but some giftors think that is a bit tacky.I personally don't give gift cards since you still have to figure out what the person is likely to buy from that store. Might as well give cash if you're going to give a gift card.
Consumer Reports is also releasing its latest survey, which finds thatFor a while, I gave gift cards, but then, I thought what if they forgot and let them sit in their drawers? So now, I'll buy them some meaningful or useful stuff and leave a decent tip.
That is ironic considering that if you're giving gift cards you're just giving someone a square of plastic.I would actually prefer to receive cash but some giftors think that is a bit tacky.
Yes, but that plastic has monetary value. Just like a $100 bill is just polymer paper. Anyways, how about a prepaid Mastercard or VISA instead of an in store gift card that is only good at that store? That is ironic considering that if you're giving gift cards you're just giving someone a square of plastic.
The thing is people forget they have gift cards with value on them and usually leave it in the drawer somewhere. Its true that paper or polymer money is the same thing, but people treat it differently. Yeah, prepaid MasterCards or Visa should be good too.Yes, but that plastic has monetary value. I got one of these for Christmas. How do I know if it has these? Call the number on the back? I plan on using this month anyway but wasn't aware of any service fee.Careful with the prepaid Visa and Mastercard that you don't get the kind that cost you a service fee up front or have a monthly service fee when there is still a balance.
You shouldn't have to suffer any fees. (The guy who purchased the card paid the fee at the time of purchase.) Also, there should be a tel number on the back you can call to verify the balance on the card.I got one of these for Christmas. How do I know if it has these? Call the number on the back? whats alarming is $44 Billion of gift cards have gone unredeemed since 2008
If I recall, it said something either in the small print on the packaging, or there was a "terms and conditions" thing inside that said something about the monthly fee. I know when my wife gave me one, she paid a fee on top of the price of the card just to buy it, but that was 3 or 4 years ago. Then I think the monthly charged took effect a couple months after activating the card.I got one of these for Christmas. How do I know if it has these? Call the number on the back? Consumer Reports is also releasing its latest survey, which finds that
27 percent of gift card recipients have not used one or more of these
cards, up from 19 percent at the same time last year. And among consumers
with unredeemed cards from last season, 51 percent have 2 or more.

These have reinforced my belief that giving gift cards may not be the best idea especially give them to the ladies. I imagine they must receive quite a few of them over time and a few of these cards might get hidden in the bottom of the drawer and go unused.whats alarming is $44 Billion of gift cards have gone unredeemed since 2008
