I just found out that a friend of mine committed suicide. I haven't seen him much lately but we've been friends since high school. I'm having a hard time dealing with this. Anyone else here experience this also? How did you get through it?

I have not experienced this, but have talked to many people in your situation. I can give you a number of answers, but the best thing I can tell you is to talk to a professional to sort out your feelings.

Regardless of how they passed away it's allways difficult dealing with it.A good friend to talk to will help and remember to live your life to the fullest....coz u never know when your time will be up.
Sorry for your loss.

Get together with other old friends and raise a glass. He could have reached out for help but he didn't. Don't blame yourself. Just remember the good times and say goodbye.

He did reach out for help. He was seeing a shrink on a regular basis but I guess it didn't help him enough.

Celebrate your friendship with him, rather than put yourself through agony.

You can seek help through any employee assistance program (such as Sheppel-FGI) that your employer may have. Counseling will be free under such a program. Other than that, just talk to friends and family about it.

It is never easy Petzel. Unfortunately as you age death will occur among your friends and family. My best friend died seven years ago. He ran marathons and was very fit but an anerisism killed him instantly. I always think about the good times we shared together and there were plenty of them. I always loved the Irish tradition, the wake, you celebrate the person's life.

Been thru it....3 times...
All were close friends and we never saw it coming, in any of them....
It'll be tough to discuss, but, you should get your common friends together and just talk..
Suicide is considered a selfish act because of the fact they don't consider the affect on the people they leave behind.. be true to your feelings but don't condemn him on his decision , but try to understand it.(some will, some wont), but be prepared for some angry comments and feelings

Good luck

My condolences. It has happened to me twice. I cried, and was sad for a few days. I wrote a last letter to the deceased in my journal. That helped.

Most of the time, when you tell someone you want to commit suicide, they will become angry at you. Very rarely, except for close friends and family, will people offer real help.

Suicide by a family member or friend is always hard. The best advise is to remember the good times. They will never be truly gone if you remember them.
