If he wins that says a lot about the lackings of the other candidates
Certainly Olivia Chow is going to have a problem with her public image. Like it or not, the public image seems to be a big issue in any political arena. She came across very poorly in IMO. Essentially constantly telling Ford he was a bad man or just wrong. And she needs to let go of the "my grandchildren" routine. Failed attempt to be folksy and empathetic and technically she does not have any grandchildren.

Does anyone know if she has taken a position to keep the outsourced garbage collection?

She was asked point blank by Tory. Her response was she believed in "competition" and that having the union encouraged that.....

In other words no privatization east of Yonge.

So tired of hearing this malarkey. It ISN'T true. He isn't saving that much money. Other candidates will look to save money. Ford himself is on his own gravy train when it suits his own purposes.

Toronto, fuck off with the "Ford will save money bullshit". Please.
Not only did he save me money, he also gave me a raise and the possibility of a job for life!

We MUST privatize every city service, it's critical.

The consequence of a failure to do so, is an imminent Greece style bankruptcy and nobody wants that.

Nope, they would have to have another vote to take away his powers for Ford's 2nd term. But taxpayers aint gonna accept that because it would be seen as an assault on democracy
Not an assault on democracy, but a third invasion of Kuwait.

3. They want a mayor who is not your typical boring old politician.
And one who will save them billions of dollars while stuffing subways into tunnel tubes throughout the city just like a sausage factory stuffs shit into sausage tube.

He'll be grinding them out one after another.

I'm not so convinced either. If he does win it'll be for 2 reasons:

1. Voters vote with their pocket book. They know ford will save them money, so they dont care about the drug use
He has a proven track record on one of those issues and it isn't the 'saving them money' issue.

Nope. Just the ones that can be done where service actually improves while saving money. According to the city this is the case.

If he is re-elected would he still be subject to the same strictures placed on him by council vote when his powers were removed to the Deputy Mayor? If so, and if Ford is re-elected, the citizenry would be electing a non-Mayor?

In that the election will boil down to one lefty candidate, Chow, and a bunch of righties, any thoughts which right wing candidates will drop out before the election? If Ford and Tory go all the way I suspect it will be Mayor Chow.
We won't need a mayor- after putin takes over

1. Voters vote with their pocket book. They know ford will save them money, so they dont care about the drug use
2. They want revenge for the endless witch-hunt The Red Star did on him
1. Why would they believe that lie when Rob has committed to the 30 billion dollar Stupid train? That is gonna come from our pocketbooks.
2. The "evil commie" Star has been cleared and proven journalistically prudent in their Ford coverage. All the stuff they said about him turned out to be true and all the stuff Ford said turned out to be lies.

Still a long way to go. Just can't base it on one debate. There is door to door campaigning to do.

Am I wrong but isn't there another mayor that can save us money or than Rob Ford. Don't believe in Rob Ford's brain washing "I save tax payers money".

Thing is the fiscal issue is I think secondary in the end. And Ford has the inside track on that in perception. No way people are voting for Chow as a "fiscal conservative".

A lot was again said about transit. With the Gardiner and Billy Bishop a part of that. Chow is saying no to things. All over the place. Being a "no" candidate doesn't win elections.

Wait until the final police report on Ford. Either gets charged with something and is out, or he isn't. And that would really kill most of the personal life stuff. Then only the issues are left. And he is very good at talking points. Don't forget that.

I still want Tory as my first choice. But he REALLY needs to get a platform out there or risks allowing the other two to shape the election.
