I have owned a Focus and it has given me great service for more than 5 years and 188,000 kilometres, without problem. Given the fact that Mazda is a subsidary of Ford, I have no qualms about buying a Protege 5. Also, they operate independently from Ford in much of their engineering. Then again, Toyota makes great cars, too. So, it depends on your tastes and the features offered in each vehicle.
