HK.. Fun but probably fixed?
I have watched all the HK seasons in the US and much of his US/UK Kitchen Nightmares and to that end even played his Hell's Kitchen game, (a rather silly but incredibly addictive point and click game), so obviously I like both him and his shows but one has to believe that HK is fixed.
By fixed I mean he probably has two or three identified potential winners and using his process of elimination he can filter the contestants down to he previously defined choices. How else can one explain how most of these people who are supposedly in the industry seem to get a glazed look on their face when they are told to turn on the stove, "hey Jenn.. what exactly is a stove again?" I once saw an episode of HK and then went to the Food Channel and watched Top Chef and the disparity was shocking. So much to the point that one can only presume that all but a few of the chefs are simply cannon fodder.
One thing I will say in general is that if I ever get arrested for murder I want the people who select the HK and Survivor candidates to help with jury selection. Every year both shows find exactly the people they need to fill the slots of idiot, self centred bitch, awkward moron etc. Sadly some of it panders to existing stereotypes, ie: on Survivor they always seem capable of finding the archetypal lazy black person, on HK woman who is a scheming bitch out to screw over the other women, etc. But I guess that makes for good TV.
Finally!!!! Do none of these people ever watch the show in advance?
1. On Survivor learn on how to make a fire before going to island!
2. On HK learn how to make Risotto.
3. On Survivor, (especially if you are black), once having learned you are on the show go to the YMCA AND LEARN HOW TO SWIM!
4. On HK learn how to make Beef Wellington.
5. On HK read Ramsay's books, (although in fact each day you succeed in the game you get a recipie), and get an idea about what ingredients he likes to use and garnishes.
6. On HK go to one of his restaurants and see how items are presented and taste!
I mean really! You're on a show that is centred on one chef and it seems most of these people are like deer staring into the headlights when Ramsay makes a request. Who was the girl who asked Jenn how long to cook a filet or Wellington and Jenn lied so it would be under-cooked. Yes Jenn was a bitch for doing that but this is a Ramsay standard and you should know it inside and out!
Rant ends!
