Your.post is exactly why nothing beside the shutdowns was ever discussed. The stupid black or white attitude, the them vs. us constant bickering, the personal and the political attacks and the inability to look at anything else- in the time of the "pandemic ", the great and existential threat. Hence, that attitude propelled us to vax 5 year olds, close schools and insist on the face covering that do exactly nothing. Meanwhile, our healthcare system is still as shitty as before covid, our ltc facilities are still underfunded and mismanaged and the timings on boosters and vaccine brands are still made by the seat of the pants. And the scariest part is not covid, but the complete lack of courage for a single politician to say- enough! We are on the road that ends with the cliff.
I agree with most of that...Trump did the us vs them with the personal attacks...the planet would be in better shape if Trump hadn't entered politics.

were at the point where you can't stop the spread by locking down.....this highly contagious variant doesn't pose the same threat as the delta....and symptoms doesn't get past 4 days...take your vaccine for good measure....

The nutbags will be coming out in droves to make outlandish claims of a variant called Omicron.

Omicron is trying to tell you that lockdowns and masks don't work. For some reason, you're not listening.

Good on your efforts over 2+ years but covid has beaten you. Some of us predicted this would be the result from the start.
How can they hear anything? They've invested so much of themselves into this; to admit failure is to admit that they are not too bright, at the very least.

didnt read the entire thread so sorry if this is repetitious-----nature has provided us with a "vaccine" that even the anti-vaxxers cant avoid. a milder form of covid that spreads rapidly through the population and will not harm most- especially those vaccinated. of course, a few anti-vaxxers may die but that was their choice. it appears that those who get omicron (especially those previously vaccinated) will have a very strong immune response to covid. hopefully, this will put an end to the pandemic. (obviously i am not the first to think this) it does make sense that this would be the natural course of a pandemic. we should expect the mutations to lead to dominant forms of the virus which are less deadly- a virus that is deadly would not spread as well- rather than more deadly forms that become prominent. i find this somewhat comforting.

Not looking for a Covid debate just wondering how long you think we can expect a “lockdown”?
I have nothing against a lockdown if that's what the medical officer recommends. Tired of people whining about their "rights" being abused. Of course I don't like lockdowns, but if it's for the good of our collective health I have no problem with it.

Next baby step on the way to a full lockdown in Ontario will be announced on Monday or Tuesday.
I do not want another lockdown but I will enjoy and take absolute pleasure in reading the whining and bellyaching of the Amigos. I believe in when you are served lemons make lemonade with Amigo's tears! 🥂

Comforting but wrong.
Omicron may be doing this - and that's great - but it is not "the natural course of a pandemic".

This is the way.

Just do the damn lockdown with school closures for a few weeks which gives time for people 18+ to get their boosters and kids 5 -12 to get their shot and then we'd probably sitting at Fall level case counts and can go about things as we were.

Yes its true that with our astronomical case counts hospitalizations and ICUs aren't bursting at the seams like waves 2 and 3 but they are starting to get stretched now so might as well pull the fucking bandaid off and go into lockdown because shit ain't getting better on its own.

GTA & Thereabouts...
Same comment... Lockdown for a few weeks and get over this. Unlike the previous variants, I do know lots of my friends/circle are testing positive. Omicron is different.

For the most of us vaccinated it will be a sore throat, headaches or flu at the worst but we won't end up in the ICU as the unvaccinated.

Should probably stop referring to covidiots as Amigos. Amigos are pure awesome sauce and loved.
