Profiling is fine for both cases however the person in this video is guilty of a crime and is sought after by police. Trayvon Martin, although a thug, was not guilty of any crime walking home from the store.
Just a point of record: Trayvon Martin did match the description of the people or persons committing burglaries in the neighborhood for the previous year and a half.

Martin obviously wasn't involved and wasn't doing anything wrong that night. But more than one person was probably followed, stopped, or questioned about this particular case before the suspect was arrested today. Any of those people other than Shawn Custis (the arrested suspect) would have been in the same position as Trayvon Martin. Any one of them would have been followed, stopped, or questioned because they look like Shawn Custis. When the above video went up, a lot of big bald black men were probably called in by people who knew or saw them.

How many of those people, looking to help solve this case and find justice for that poor woman and her children, are now overzealous mall cops?

This kinda shit happens every day all over the world and the US soldiers are responsible for doing it as well.
The sensationalism of these kinds of stories proves that ppl react to emotion rather than reason or fact.
You are loosing credibility.

The station would not show the video without the victim's consent.
Unfortunately not true. They can do anything they want, and do. I was in journalism in the states, and it's appalling what can be done, for example, the Caledonian Record, in Vermont, won the right in court to print statutory rape victims' names. In a small town, nonetheless. They do it frequently and it's near impossible for even the parents of the victims to convince them not to. I wish you were right.

That a paper has the right to to do is guaranteed by the first amendment of the US constitution. That they choose to do so makes them dicks.

That was the decision, sort of, in a nutshell. I would have hoped that minors were protected, but... I know better. Blek. They were the first paper to offer me a paid position, and I very impolitely turned down the offer to work for a civilized organization with actual ethics... Amazing that you can find those.

The video was recorded by the victim's nanny cam. The video belongs to the victim. She released it to the public. If not, the video would never be seen. That was the point I was trying to make.

Gotcha. I guess my point is that we often assume the best when it comes to many things, despite evidence to the contrary. There have been very similar instances in which videos, photos, etc have been used in ways that were not intended or approved by victims. Media is dirty, dirty business. Anyhow, I see what you're saying.

Shameless act of violence. My prayer goes out to the victim, and her child that had to witness such horrific acts. I can't imagine the emotional scars and future pain that these two victims will have. People tend to look at race, nationality and gender when dealing with tragic/horrific events. But, lest we forget that their are 'despicable humans' on the face of the earth, we should focus our attention and prayer to the ones who need it; not discriminate.

After he is convicted and put into general population, they need to gather all the other convicts together and show them the video. ..and then let natural justice take its course.
