Post #31. I gave the link from the World Health Organization and also the exact quote from that link.where?
KJ is right. If you had a cold sore as a kid (almost always hsv-1) the you won't get it down below. But if you never had it...then it's possible. It's possible to get hsv-2 (usually gentle herpes) on the lips. Over 80% of the public have hsv-1. Under 20% have hsv-2. So do the blood test to figure out which you have. If it's 1, and your SO had cold sores, you won't transmit it to her. But if not...treatments such as taking alcyclovir or valcyclovir and using condom for all sex reduces but does not eliminate transmission possibilities...Not true - they are for the most part - different virual types hsv1 and hsv2 (cold sores vs genitals). There is no immunity if u have one or the other. Also while hsv1 is normally cold sores on lips - it has been known to be transferred onto the genitals and vice Versa
You can shed the virus when not having an outbreak. And yes, it is possible to have the virus and never experience any aymptoms.so someone had a cold sore (hsv1) while they gave you a bbbj and now you have hsv1 on your dick? is it possible to have hsv1 on your mouth but not have any symptoms/cold sores? based on the info posted in this thread, it's rare to get hsv1 on your genitals, so you lucked out.
you should probably tell all the women you slept with about this, but if it's hsv1, wouldn't the worst thing they have be cold sores?
He did not say that. That is what the WHO says, if you've had it on your lips it is unlikely that you will get it on your genitals.KJ is right. If you had a cold sore as a kid (almost always hsv-1) the you won't get it down below.

From the World Health Organization:
https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/herpes-simplex-virus
Individuals who already have HSV-1 oral herpes infection are unlikely to be subsequently infected with HSV-1 in the genital area.
Glad I got cold sores as a kid.
And what they are saying is that if you are infected with HSV-!, there is minimal chance that you will get HSV-2. That confirms what my initial impression was, there is some "cross-immunity" as opposed to strong denials by koreanjames and Schlong.
There’s a blood test that can determine if it’s hsv 1 or 2 but it won’t tell you the location. You can get hsv 1 on you genitals, lips or anywhere on you skin same with hsv2. Herpes transmitted by skin to skin contact it’s not just a std.I an wondering if anyone here has been tested for herpes? I have always wanted to be clinics like hassle free do not offer a herpes test of any kind. Also, I would like to know if there is a way to distinguish between the strain (HSV 1 or 2)?
Have you had the test? Can you get it at any clinic? There’s a blood test that can determine if it’s hsv 1 or 2 but it won’t tell you the location. You can get hsv 1 on you genitals, lips or anywhere on you skin same with hsv2. Herpes transmitted by skin to skin contact it’s not just a std.
Info on herpes by Hassle Free Clinic.
Herpes can be diagnosed by a physical examination. If there are sores present, a swab is taken and sent to a lab for testing. If you do not have a sore then there is no way to definitively test for HSV. Blood tests currently available are not useful because they cannot tell you where on your body you have HSV. Blood tests are not covered by OHIP.

"People who already have HSV-1 infection are not at risk of getting it again, but they are still at risk of acquiring herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) genital infection (see below)."
I don't like how handwaivy hassle free is about herpes, like it is not worth worrying about as long as you don't have symptoms.
Yes pay cause the blood test is not covered by OHIP. The blood test is useless as it won't tell where it's located.i believe you can pay a few hundred to get it done - not at HFC however.
You won't get hsv-1 down below if you have hsv-1 on the lips first. But you can get hsv-2 down below if you have hsv-1 on the lip. Herpes crawls up the nerve at the points it entered the body, the shoots down the nerve for a breakout when under stress or some other trigger. He did not say that. That is what the WHO says, if you've had it on your lips it is unlikely that you will get it on your genitals.
I have been to HFC before and unless you have something to show them they aren't going to strip you down and start searching the crevices of your body. If you had a sore you would know it as they are supposed to be quite painful and follow a very distinct evolution (ie they itch, they grow, they pop and crust over). Can you at least go to HFC to get your body examined for sores? At the same time gets tested for the other STDs.
I think it's not useless to know which one you have even if you don't know the location. Most people already have HSV1 and have a resistence to it, which is not the case for HSV2. Furthermore, HSV2 is more virulent and carries more stigma so passing it on to someone else can be very devastating for them.Yes pay cause the blood test is not covered by OHIP. The blood test is useless as it won't tell where it's located.
No I haven’t. I inquired about testing for herpes when I was at the hassle free clinic getting tested I didn’t see it on the list of things they were testing for. They told me there’s no point to test unless you’ve had symptoms and even if you do get the blood test they can only tell you the strain your carrying not the location unless you show symptoms. Hassle free or any sexual health clinic won’t test but you can ask your doctor to if you want to get the blood test.Have you had the test? Can you get it at any clinic?
