Business is done by tax paying private enterprise, therefore they can choose to spend their money as they wish. 'Teachers' are wards of the state on the public dole and a PD is just another in a string of glorified hoilidays for teachers. To claim it is actually a development day is further proof of the delusions they perpetuate.

clearly you ve never sat in on a pd day. they are not the day off you think. all teachers must be present for presentations.

much like rub you are talking about things you have heard. unfortunately it is not true.

My teacher friend told me that PD days are a total waste of time and taxpayers' money because at the end of the day, nothing comes out of it except for blah blah blah and a free lunch for every teacher. He also said that any miniscule amount of useful information delivered is also common sense to any 10 year old.

that is pretty much it. but free lunch is not a guarantee. the current state of affairs is a knee jerk reaction to public opinion combined with the need to repackage concepts under new names so it appears to be innovative. the biggest problem is that a rookie teacher and one near retirement get the same info. it is a retarded way to try amd get people to learn things. often what is consifered good for the student is not good for the teacher.....ie find oit the persons baseline and go from there rather than starting off at square 1.

my only anti teacher sentiment is that the union allows for deadweight to hang around. luckily they are im the minoroty.

This thread has pulled me out of hiding.

The negative things that you hear about teacher this, and teacher that basically are the worst-case scenarios, because the normal and best case scenarios are usually not newsworthy.

As they say, contentment has no sound.

As for the thread starter... your friend is nucking futz. 'mature' teens, he's fucking over his head backwards. I once saw a colleague of mine driving a female student home in his car alone... fucking guy disappeared on 'medical leave' a short time later. Funny he didn't look sick at all.

my only gripe with teachers are those who carry on teaching well past retirement..or retire, then return to supply teach or work in Board offices as consultants. Principals are the worst offenders. They are already retiring with disgustingly large pensions then have the nerve to take up teaching spots which young, eager and more current, unemployed teachers would love to take a shot at.

He is playing with fire. Trusting an 18 year old to keep something like this confidential is dumb. She will tell a friend, in strictest confidence of course, and word will spread like wildfire. Even if your friend is technically within the rules, he is doing some permanent damage to his career. It's not worth it. Expecting an 18 year old to save herself for him for the next 18 months or so is foolish. It won't happen. She will grow up and change her mind and find someone else, while his career goes down the drain.

Well I showed my teacher friend this thread, and he said that he has changed his mind. I think it is the grooming part that dissuaded him.

Tee OH!
Sadly our future as a humanity is looking gloomy. We have someone in the system who is teaching our children, and this particular decision in his life weighed on him?

i am going to call bullshit on the complaints...... hours have not changed for hs teachers for at least 30 years.....three seventy five minute classes per day.

the is no such thing as vacation time. 20 sick days per year has been around for decades. and you need drs notes and cant use it to take a week off.

as for pay the contracts are 4 years so no point discussing them regularly.

as for time spent...like any other job the longer you do it the better you get at it. so they are likely making changes tou just dont see it because it doesnt take long with experience.

maybe your friends are just asses.
For the record, I think elementary teachers work far harder than high school teachers. I know of many who put in 50-60 hour work weeks regularly.
Teachers get tons of vacation time I don't know what you're talking about. 8 weeks in the summer, 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week at March Break. Hell I'm lucky if I can get 1 week per year.
Teachers also get pay raises based on professional development courses completed. What other profession gets that perk?
The unions aren't there to protect the good teachers, they are there to protect the bad ones. I fully support the disbandment of all public sector unions, including the Teachers Federation. I support paying teachers on a merit basis. They shouldn't be capped by a union agreement.

rub the politician comment was a joke notice the big smiley face.

the pay raises for courses in hs only happens once. therte is a bonus of 1000 if you have a phd or masters.

the teacher has to pay the tuitiom for the courses.

pay for hs and elementary are the same.....elementary should be more

xmas and summers are time off i meant point out that they are unpaid the salary is based on teaching days then spread through out the year.

yup elementary is more work]

yup the union protects retardss

but shouldnt people be mad at the system and not the people who benefit
