I decided to download IE8 tonight. My question is that because my computer already had windows xp service pack 3 then it wouldn't let me uninstall IE7:confused: before downloading and installing IE8?

Therefore I just downloaded IE8 to override IE7? The download size of IE8 was only 5MB. I also downloaded microsoft silverknight whatever that is?

I looked in my add/remove programs and IE8 is there. Does this mean that I downloaded IE8 properly? I am a computer beginner who is trying to learn so hopefully you tech wizards won't laugh at me too much?

What I am not sure of is if IE7 is still stored in windows xp service pack 3 somehow?

As usual any help would be much appreciated!

In the past M$ would not let you remove IE, it was built right into Windows.

Believe you did the correct IE8 install of IE8.

IE8 gets great reviews from what I've seen so far but haven't tried it yet.

Thanks WP:) . IE8 seems impressive so far. Everything seems much clearer and it has some much better features than IE7. I'm going to do a more in depth study of IE8 tomorrow.

I just figured that now that I have 2GB of Ram on my pc that I might as well give IE8 a try!

The reviews I read said they really improved IE8 so it's faster and not the resource hog earlier IE versions were. IE was tired of always being rated the slowest of the browsers and set out to speed things up.

Believe IE8 will be standard in Windows 7.

Another nice feature is that if the web page does not display correctly in IE8, you can click the broken page(?) icon (called the compatibility view) and the page will load up correctly.....works for websites designedfor older browsers... so far love IE8

With explorer open click on "Help" then click on About Explorer. This will tell you the version you are running.

I like firefox but it is a memory hog and a slow startup time. If IE8 has better performance in those regards I may consider a switch.
