I noticed that Factory Direct has a bunch of iPhones on sale this week.

Question 1: Do the camera and wi-fi work without a paid subscription?

Question 2: Can I replace the iPhone SIM card with my 7-11 phone SIM card to get telephone service? BTW: How do you open the darn iPhone to replace the SIM card. It looks like a sealed unit.

I was in a Factory Direct today and they had 3GS and 4's for almost $300. Is that a deal? I'm trying to sell my 5S for $375 and if those prices are fair, I'm way undervaluing mine lol.

Anyway, yes the camera and wifi will work as is without cellular service. It's basically an Ipod then.

Sim card is in a little tray on the right hand side. It comes with a small tool to open it, but a paper clip or pin will work just as well

Your place!!
Sim cards are different between 4 and 5's I've been told. 6s are definitely different.

Better sell it quick though as the value of phones drop like crazy. Pretty much every six months when the new ones come out they drop big time.

6 months ago rogers wanted about 300 for a 5s if I went on a new 2 year plan. 3 months ago they wanted 159. Last week I got the phone free pretty much.

According to the flyer, the 3GS is $109.98 and the 4 is $179.98 (maybe I'm not reading it right). The 5s is advertised at $519.98. Please feel free to check. I am reading from the paper flyer but I am almost sure it is also online.

Another question 1: Which of the iPhones shoot 1920x1080p videos?

Another question 2: The name on the iPhone simply says "iPhone". How can I tell if it is a 3, 4 or 5?

The 4S model has become much slower since the IOS 8 was launched. If u want to enjoy the bells and whistles it is better to get the i5 series.

1. Yes. The camera and wifi are independent of your cell phone provider, however, you will need an internet connection to set the phone up.

2. The newer iPhones use a nano SIM card. It's different from the regular SIM cards, and is slightly smaller than the micro sim cards. The chip size is the same between the cards - just the surrounding area is smaller.

I didn't really pay attention to iphones before I got my 4S. But I think the 3 had rounded edges, and then they went to squared off edges with the 4. The 5 is bigger. Not sure if there is a quick visual way to tell a 4 from a 4S. A 5 to a 5S is easy because the 5S has the fingerprint reader on the home button.

Correct.

The 3 had the curved back.

no physical distinction between the 4 and 4s.

the 5 is taller than the 4, and is also distinguished by the headphone jack being moved to the bottom left. The 5 also has the 8pin Lightning connector.

Apparently, the iPhone 6 requires your fingerprint to turn the thing on. Does that mean you can not lend the phone to a friend or relative who has a different fingerprint?

No, the fingerprint is an optional security feature. You can leave the phone unlocked. Or use the number pad.

Even with the fingerprint ID on you can still use the number code.

I love the ID feature.

The 5S has that feature as well. I never used it because I put it in an Otterbox case designed for the 5, so the home button was covered. I just got a 6 on Boxing Day, and they gave me an Otterbox designed for the 6 so the button is accessible, but it takes a couple reads of my finger to unlock, because of the thickness of the case around it. I just use the number lock.

Try reprogramming the fingerprint, but this time, move your finger around more as it reads. Make sure it catches more of the edges and partial prints.

Last 2 questions and I'll leave the room.

Last question #1: How and where do I get an iPhone unlocked?

Last question #2: How can I tell if the iPhone 6 is 16GB, 64GB or 128 GB? There is a difference in the price of each.
