I was wondering about this too as the battery in my ipod seems to diminish faster and faster nowadays.

I think if you bring it to an Apple Store, they will replace it with the exact same model, although I think you pay a small fee, no?

Or would it be better to just get the battery replaced at another store?

Can someone comment?

www.irepair.ca replaces batteries for about $40. They are not in Mississauga, but I think they are worth the trip as they replace it in about 15 minutes.
They are on College near Bathurst. Very fast service - done by the time I got back with a coffee. Or you can ship to them.

This might be a silly question but is that just labour? How much does the battery cost + replacement?

Thanks,

Does the memory on your iPod get wiped out when they replace the battery?

If so, how should you back up your songs, playlists, etc.?

iTunes won't let you transfer content from your iPod to iTunes; only from iTunes to iPod.

Your music should be in iTunes. So when the iPod is reset you hook back up to iTunes and sync it up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but iTunes is just a file management system. All of the actual files are on your computer somewhere and iTunes locates those files, organizes them, and then transfers them to your iPod.

So if your iPod gets wiped, you just plug it into your computer and re-download everything via iTunes again.

If you have new songs to add, just plug in your iPod and iTunes will sync it with the new files on your computer.

Question: If I rename/edit a file via iTunes, does it rename/edit the original file on my computer or do I have to rename/edit every time I re-load iTunes onto my computer (e.g., after a Windows reinstall)?

iTunes edits the ID3 tags in the .mp3 file, but I am not sure if it actually changes the filename itself.

So I've figured out the answer to my question. I thought that changing the details about the music file via iTunes does not change the original music file, which makes it a pain in the ass because everything you reinstall iTunes you would lose all the changes. Not true.

iTunes has an option under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized." This enables you to make changes to the actual files themselves via iTunes. The only catch is that all your music must be in the "iTunes Music" folder, which by default is usually on your C: (OS) drive.

For me, that didn't work since my C: drive isn't very big and can't handle endless volumes of songs. But there's a way to change the default to another drive location and that's what I did last night. The iTunes library files remains in its original location but it just references the new location for the actual files.

The beautiful part is that you can now edit your music files to your heart's content and all those changes will be remembered.
