No. They are far, far, far worse. That can easily be seen from the nearly half million dead and well over 10 million refugees from Assad, Iran, and Hezbollah's war. Russia is a more recent addition but is very quickly racking up a death toll.
How long has the Assad family been in power? Can you explain why there was no refugee problem for DECADES until the US started and funded terrorist groups in Syria? If Assad was so bad why did Syrians not flee for DECADES? (Assads father was even worse then Bashar). The fact is the refugees that are fleeing Syria are really mostly pro Assad and are fleeing the state sponsored terror of the US.

Kepp on posting this. It's worth a good laugh how you blame the US because Assad violent pout down peaceful protests. That is where the conflict started.

You must have gotten that info from RT because most media is reporting in more detail (not to mention the joke of you calling them US allies). First Russian bombing shut off water to the rebel held areas and then the rebels shut off the rest. If you're happy with Russia being in the same moral category as ISIS...

Assad, Iran, and Hezbollah have been keeping a strict siege on the city refusing to allow aid in or civilians out. But instead you guys complain about Israel's blockade in which thousands of tonnes of aid go in monthly, people routinely cross the border for work, travel, or medical help, and Israel even facilitates commercial exports from the region. Just another example of ridiculous double standard.
Sure Assad did violently put down some rebellions, as most counties would. Where did the rebels get TOW missiles? The US talks quite openly about providing arms to these people so why do you keep denying it. Israel stops aid from entering Gaza as well and won't even allow concrete in, so why are you guys bitching about Assad limiting aid to Al Queda groups in Aleppo? Israel often destroys entire industries in Gaza with blockades, it has been well documented. The situations are not the same. Syria is in a state of war. Gaza is a concentration camp. Comparing the two is silly. If the US delivered heavy weapons to Gaza and launched air strikes against the IDF, then the situation would be more comparable.

I have friends who went to study in Syria in the '90's, at that time Assad was known as a harsh leader and Syria a bureaucratic nation. It wasn't a beacon of open democracy, but it also was a functioning state that was more livable then Iraq before the Bush's killed it.

The rebellion went to shit when ISIS and AQ, who were becoming active because of failed US policies in Iraq, joined in. Since then there are too many other states, and non-state actors in on the action. Who do you back, Russia and Assad? The US and the terrorists they've been backing? Turkey?
Big fucking mess.

Keep lying. Your lies are blatant and make you look dumb. The Syrian war was well underway with lots of refugees and many deaths before the US got involved.

Of course you blame the US. But neglect to mention who funded AQ in Iraq, who supplied weapons to the anti American insurgency there, that morphed into ISIS.

Assad funded the Iraqi insurgency for years. He thought that if he destabilized Iraq he could eventually annex some or all of it. It's been his dream to unify Iraq and Syria for a long time. The Syrian and Iraqi Baathists used to have meetings to talk about unification but never could agree on who should annex who.

Then it blew up in his face when his own people revolted and hooked up with the insurgency he created in Iraq.

The US invaded Iraq and disbanded the military, also initiated a process of Debaathification, which blew up in their face and caused the formation of ISIS, the funding of Syria was but a footnote in the whole war, the US had the means and power to control Iraqi borders. If they failed to do so it is 110% their own failure. Also at the center of it, their invasion of Iraq was a massive violation of international law.

You know from other threads that I am a huge critic of de-Baathification.

However that doesn't change the fact that Assad massively funded and armed the Sunni insurgency right up until it turned on him. He actually created ISIS. The most the Americans can be blamed for is creating an environment in which ISIS could be created--by Assad.

You just don't like the facts.

Assad did not have the means or money to massively fund anything. The rebelllion was well armed cos it was the goddam iraqi army

Deny deny deny. Not only did Syria fund and arm ISIS, for years militants fighting in Iraq had free transit through Syria. The insurgency was not the Iraqi army, it recruited former soldiers, but it also recruited mujahedeen, and in particular Al Qaeda got involved. All with money, weapons, ammunition, support, and transit through Syria.

Syria of course is an old hand at funding terrorist militias, such as Hezbollah.

The reality is that Assad created ISIS. The Americans gave him the opportunity by fucking up the restoration, but it was Syria that fueled that insurgency and kept it going.

Remember what party Assad belongs to?

Baathist.

He always viewed Iraq as his rightful territory. Saddam also viewed Syria as HIS rightful territory. They both believed Iraq and Syria should be one country, they just never agreed which one of them should rule it.

When Saddam was ousted Assad thought it was his big chance. Drive out the Americans by destabilizing the country and fomenting an insurgency them eventually step in to "restore order"under Syrian rule. That was his plan.

Of course, it didn't go as he planned

Yes, Syria clearly created ISIS.

Now you are gloating that Assad succeeded in thwarting the Iraqi restoration by creating ISIS.

Syria created ISIS? Now that is pretty rich. Very amusing and utterly false.

Is that seriously your justification?

And no, there were no TOW missiles at the start of the conflict. It was Assad's violent response to peaceful protests that started the war. The Saudis happily jumped into to further their regional power struggle with Iran but that didn't happen until the Syrian people got pissed off at Assad.

Flat out wrong. Israel allows in thousands of tonnes of aid every month and they allow in concrete but only for UN and other registered aid projects. It is amazing that you support Russia absolutely destroying cities because some of the rebels are terrorists but you think Israel should be required to send concrete to a terrorist group.

Yes. Assad funded and armed the Sunni insurgency in Iraq, and allowed fighters to transit Syrian terroritory. He kept on supporting them until revolution broke out in his own country and the insurgency he had funded turned around and bit him in the ass.

I realize that doesn't fit with your blame America pro Russian anti western mythology. Too bad for you.
