A sportswriter is suggesting that Derek might be taking human growth hormone. How else to explain he is having the best year of an already great career at age 38? (Note: Barry Bonds also had his best years after age 35.)

Who is suggesting such an outrage against maybe the best player of our generation.
I thought we were talking about Derek Jeter, not Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, or even Ken 'Griffey Jr. (> Jeter). ;)

I think Skip Baylsis was the one who started the storm of this topic . He didn't say Jeter did roids ( HGH ) but with what has happened in baseball in this last decade , it is hard not to think about cheating when somebody in baseball is doing something unusual . Heck even Jeter
admitted that it's hard to avoid rumours cause it's guilty by association ie cheaters have ruined it for clean athletes .

The testing in MLB isn't as advanced as the cheating methods

^^ and Jeter's response is always the one used by many a dirty player.

Time will tell on this one. If more conclusive evidince presents itself, a firmer conclusion can be drawn.

His averages are still consistent, much like Ripken. I for one will give Jeter the benefit of the doubt here, unless something more comcrete is given.

Is Jeter's accomplishing anything this year that he has never done before ??? No and so why should we even worry about it . If HGH allows a older body to withstand a 160 game schedule then why should we worry if he is using it or not .

You have to worry about it....OF COURSE...... To keep a fair playing field.

Because, other 38 year olds are not using.

Its one thing if we say ...ok free for all...use what you like!!

But that is not the case....FAIRNESS IS THE ISSUE.

Why is baseball being picked on ? If Kobe Bryant can prolong his career by taking HGH ( speculation ) will we be as hard on him then if a baseball player does it ? IF Alfredsson does it ( speculate ) or Duck's Temo does it are we wondering or having these same discussions

I think it is a fair question. Melky Cabrera was drafted by the Yanks and Bartola Colon pitched for them, both are under suspension. This does not say Jeter is a user nor does it say the Yankee organization is for peformance enhancing drugs, but it certainly does allow one to wonder how many other players that are or have been associated with the Yanks are users?

Not saying Jeter is guilty of anything, but, millions of dollars are at stake for them in their contract with the club and endorsements. A player will try to play as long as they can and to think that they would hesitate to use something that is considered a banned substance in their sport. One would have to be pretty naive to think that. They are only guilty of such things if they are caught. and it is proven.

I did say that Jeter's numbers are consistent throughout his career Bargnani and I give him the benefit of the doubt. And no, I am not worried about what these guys put into their bodies.

It's Skip Bayless, so even though I would have thought twice, now I know it's 99.999999999% Jeter is clean.

How is this guy have the best year? His RBI total are at 44 and his HR are 13 and SB are 8. He's having a better year than last year, but wasn't he injured. He's just an constant player.

At the same age of 38, Derek and Pete Rose are virtually tied in career hits. Of course, Rose played until he was 235 years old:Eek: (actually 45). The TV guys said that Derek will probably end his career as a designated hitter.
