At the same age of 38, Derek and Pete Rose are virtually tied in career hits. Of course, Rose played until he was 235 years old:Eek: (actually 45). The TV guys said that Derek will probably end his career as a designated hitter.
It takes a guy like Jeter to come along to really really appreciate Pete Rose's accomplishments . Derek has had an amazing career and he is still 1000 hits away from Pete .

Even more remarkable is that Pete did it against the best Black pitchers and when relief pitchers would come in fresh from the bullpen throwing 130 mph in the 7th inning and fielders are taller, faster and wearing huge gloves. That is why Pete is better than Ty Cobb.

It's Skip Bayless, so even though I would have thought twice, now I know it's 99.999999999% Jeter is clean.
Agreed. Skip Bayless is an utter clown and a joke of a reporter
He doesn't even try to be even-handed or balanced, he just says things to get reactions out of people. Which, fine, whatever, if that's your thing, run with it, but it also means that none of what you say can be taken seriously

To be honest, I have no idea what this post is trying to say
Are you comparing Pete Rose to Ty Cobb? If so, then yeah, Ty Cobb didn't have to compete against black pitchers or against bullpens. Although to be fair, the way bullpens were used in Pete Rose's time was much different than the way it is now. Less specialization then. However Ty Cobb also played in the deadball era where there was much less power and the game was tilted to the advantage of the pitchers. I'm at a complete loss to your point about 'big gloves'. Sure gloves were smaller in Ty Cobb's era, wouldn't that prove that Cobb was a better hitter than Rose?
I don't think you can adequately compare the two hitters because of the drastic differences in the way the game was played. However if you did, by most statistical comparisons, Cobb is a better hitter than Rose. Rose played longer so he was able to pile up better stats, but in his prime Cobb was one of the top 5 or 10 best players ever.

Or are you comparing Rose/Cobb to Jeter? If so, then there's no comparison between Cobb and Jeter. Jeter's a great player, but nowhere close to Cobb. Although again, comparing the two is difficult because of the different eras of baseball. Rose and Jeter is closer, but I would probably put Jeter ahead of Rose because of his defense and postseason. Although you can make a good case for either.

Also no one has ever thrown 130mph in any inning

Ty Cobb played in an era when hitting .370 to over .400 was fairly common. So, it is not unusual to have a high batting average. I looked at some of the old baseball pictures and the fielders and their gloves looked really small compared to to-day's players. Can you imagine if Cobb had to hit a ball past a 6'3" 3B with a huge glove like A-Rod?

^^^Rock, that was also in an era when a pitcher pitched the whole game and often only on a day or two's rest. Probably hungover as well.
Also, I vaguely recall the hitting rules were more favourable to the batter. I think that was before catching a foul ball resulted in an out (can someone confirm?).

Derek is a shoo in for the Hall of Fame.

Trivia question: Who got the highest vote ever for HOF induction? Hint: He was a pitcher.

^^^ I'd say the same guy who threw the hardest pitch ever, Nolan Ryan.

Back in the days of the ray gun that measures speed as the ball crossed the plate. A typical pitch loses anywhere between 4 to 7 mph from the time it leaves the hand to when it crosses the plate.

^^ and Jeter's response is always the one used by many a dirty player.

Time will tell on this one. If more conclusive evidince presents itself, a firmer conclusion can be drawn.

His averages are still consistent, much like Ripken. I for one will give Jeter the benefit of the doubt here, unless something more comcrete is given.
I also give Derek the benefit of the doubt.

Why is baseball being picked on ? If Kobe Bryant can prolong his career by taking HGH ( speculation ) will we be as hard on him then if a baseball player does it ? IF Alfredsson does it ( speculate ) or Duck's Temo does it are we wondering or having these same discussions
I have no problem giving it to whoever is cought cheating. Whether it be a Leaf, Jay or Raptor player.
I, however, do not take it too serious if players are using. Mostly because one can never be sure.
Yes I would prefer everyone play clean, but that is not the world we live in.
