It's not odd. It's what the GOP wants. They wanted this shutdown.
The GOP passed a clean CR, like 13 other times during the Biden administration. I think very few, including POTUS didn’t want a shutdown. That said, never let a tragedy go to waste (Rham I think), Trump will try to shrink government spending and employment.

Yes, so why bother voting in the bill. Either way that's the plan

trump wants 2 things.
1) to fire as many people as he can during shutdown
2) to stop the Epstein files from becoming public

The budget. You know, the one that doesn't have the votes?
Fiscal year ends Sept 30. Congress has not negotiated a budget with appropriations, the argument is should we keep the government open with a continuing resolution that continues the prior budget for 7 weeks (what the House passed, what they did in the spring and 13 times during the Biden administration). Senate democrats want some compromises to keep the government funded, GOP unlikely to agree. Its rare to have one of these go on for very long as most of the government isnt getting paid, even though some are still working (military, TSA, law enforcement…..) amid the presure ramps up quickly.

the big 7 tech companies have a combined market cap larger than the EU economy.

Yes there is a massive AI goldrush, like the internet that drove the market cap of those 7 companies.

Not 40% of GDP, a subset of GDP growth (3.8% in Q2)
Sure, 40% of GDP growth.

AI isn't making money. trump gave $20 billion to Argentina to fund them selling soybeans to China, contracts that the US used to own. Tariffs are shutting down companies, food and electricity is bankrupting families and health insurance is set to jump massively.

The Democrats are arguing for health care funding.

AMERICAN here...yes it sucks

I'm actually thinking about about working remote in Toronto. To my understanding, I can work here for 6 months. Id rather use my American dollars else where tbh.

The USD is stronger than CAD. A place downtown near CN tower is like 1600 USD. In America that would be around $3000 USD or over 4000 CAD.

We are getting scammed! Lets not talk about P4P...I can go on and on about that. I was truly amazed at how organized and relaxed the Toronto spas are. In America they have nothing like it.

The government is crazy. The gun violence is crazy. There was a mass shooting at a church in my state about 40 mins away from me. Dude burned the church down and killed 4 people. USA is truly atrocious.

I think the main part here is what is in bold. It is nice to get US wage and taxes and spend it elsewhere. But do not forget it is the USA that lets you make that money and have those low taxes. Do not confuse tourism with immigration.

Working is different. There are, like the USA, regional income taxes as well. If you work for someone, they will have to report it.

Btw, you will want to take a closer look at living in the CN Tower area. It can be very noisy, lots of traffic, lack of local services(grocery, various services) because it's all about servicing the Dome, ACC and tourism. Although St Lawrence Market is close enough and awesome.

If you want a bit quieter, lakeside with paths, decent transit, and good services walkability, look into all the condos around Lakeshore Blvd and Parklawn Rd.

Of course no need to mention much higher Healthcare costs, rent is worse, food prices have skyrocketed, crime rates, militarized police, infrastructure falling apart, lack of public services, shoddy public school system.... .

That extra 5% tax break makes it all worth it.
