That's a relative comment and the reason he is doing better than others in his time slot is because Leno left. Leno was the number one guy iin late night prior to the change, whether you like him or not it doesn't matter, only ratings count which drives ad revenues. I still think when Leno gets back head to head with Letterman Leno will overtake him in the ratings.

Here is the latest rumour. Leno back at 11:30PM for half hour. Conan at 12AM for half hour. If Conan no like, he can take a hike and Leno gets extended to 1 hour.
According to Bill Harris, Sun Media :
NBC wants to move Leno to 11:35 p.m., O’Brien to 12:05 a.m. and Jimmy Fallon to 1:05 a.m., but O’Brien might balk and walk.
Conan keeps the Tonight Show and according to my math, 1 full hour long.

What does it matter what they call any of these shows? The format is nearly identical for all of them. A white guy in a suit comes on, does a short stand up routine, introduces his band, and they go commercials. When they come back, the host is behind a desk. He interviews big stars, but rarely asks any of them the types of questions we'd really like to hear answered.
Even when Leno asked Hugh Grant, "what were you thinking?" with regard to the tranny hooker, it was pretty clear that it was scripted for Grant to do his public apology.
Mix in a few sketches, sometimes a musical guest, lots more commercials, and show over.

Where did you read that Asterix? All I see is that he says that he will not agree to move "The Tonight Show" back to Midnight.
That sounds like bargining to me rather than walking out and slaming the door, although I agree it may come to that.
They were reporting that on my local NBC affiliate and evidently they didn't get it quite right. He has rejected NBC's plan to move him back though so I don't see how they're going to resolve this easily. Somebody is going to have to go.
