Joe Manchin was on with Fox News' Bret Baier and said he will not vote for packing the Supreme Court. He also will not vote for an end to the filibuster. He sounded very sincere. Manchin is not known for dramatic gestures.

There's also a subtle strategy at play here. If he wants the Democrats to win two seats in Georgia, it would be a good idea to convince voters there that no radical agenda will move forward with a Democratic majority. Part of the strategy was to first proclaim this to the Fox News audience.

He also was dismissive of Medicare For All and the Green New Deal.

Just respond to the posts. This is just a news item. I anticipate your anger when a topic is debated.

Evan if the Dems take the senate the party has a number of diverse wings and there are many polices which will not pass. There is a large ideological gulf between the progressive wing and the more moderate wing. Nothing is a certainty. Ig GOP keeps senate all bets are off.

You mean the right wing, not the moderate one. When you vote for war, wall st. And corporations over people you are right wing. When you put forth and administer "Law and Order Agendas" and prosecute the Drug War you are right wing. When you support and continue to expand the Patriot Act you are right wing.

When you vote with Republicans on legislation they like you are right wing.

The original post?
The farthest right of the Democrats will not vote for expanding the court or ending the filibuster. That's what he is telling Fox right now, when the Democrats are behind in the Senate and the only people with the power to expand the court and end the filibuster are the Republicans.

This guy could save the media a lot of time if he could just give his 2 contradictory press conferences at the same time. This guy does more flipping than a cook at the House of Pancakes.

Or just join the GOP. He votes with them enough anyway.

House of Pancakes could be his next employer.

Actually he has the best of both worlds. He can vote how he wants. He's popular in his state and if he switched party alignment the Republicans might try to pressure his vote. He votes just enough with the Dems to keep the Democratic caucus off his back. The Dems know they would not win West Virginia without the Manchin name.

You have to realize while defeating Donald Trump was a great victory for the Democratic party the broader election was not. Perhaps the Democrats spent too much time denouncing Trump and not enough time selling their platform. More likely, many voters were able to differentiate a vote against Trump from support for the Democratic platform.

I do see it. The house losses show that clearly. This election was once again new ground.

Trump gained with minorities and Biden with High School Educated white males. In swing states.

Unless he does something meaningful for working class voters the House will move to the GOP in 2022. And more of the Senate.

Watch as the Grand Bargain to cut "entitlements" happens then. Which is exactly what Biden Wants.

If the filibuster goes away, Manchin becomes one of the most important votes in the Senate. (Especially if it goes to 50/50.)

He can't say that out loud though, so he is playing coy.

Butler - is that an official prediction? - Biden will make a "grand bargain" to cut entitlements after the 2022 election?

If so, again - what is the bargain? What is Biden getting for this deal?

If, as you keep saying, Biden just wants to cut entitlements for shits and giggles, why would he wait until 2022 to do it?

It is my contention that if the Dems lose the House and Senate in 2022 and the Dems have killed the 60 seat threshold to pass legislation then the GOP will attempt to pass austerity legislation which will at least freeze increases to Social Security and Medicare if not actually make cuts to the latter.

And Joe Biden, if he lasts that long, will sign it.

And Biden gets exactly what he wants. A budget cut.

I also think the chance of them opening a new War front in Syria with a eye towards Iran is high. And that will be the excuse not to cut the Military budget. With "bounties on soldiers" as the new "Iraq WMD"

And Joe walks out taking the blame/credit depending who you ask. Kacish and crew will love it. The donors win.

That's not coy. Thats quite direct.

Glad you were straight up.

I just want to make sure I understand your position.

1. If the Dems lose both houses of congress in 2022.
2. If the Dems killed the filibuster. (Which they can only do if they win both Senate races in Georgia.)
3. The GOP (owning both houses) will pass austerity legislation freezing if not cutting Social Security and Medicare outright.
4. Biden will sign this.

In this scenario - you will blame Biden and say it is what he wants.

Am I summarizing this correctly?

Second.
1. There will be a war front in Syria opened up with "an eye for Iran".
2. This will be the excuse not to cut the Military Budget
3. Bounties on soldiers will be the pretext

This, too, you will blame on Biden.

Am I summarizing it correctly?

I will blame Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell and anyone else who champions these things. It will be a bypartisan effort.

And yes it depends on the Dems killing the Filibuster. The GOP wont do it. They like the gridlock. It means only what they want passes peacefully.

Its a prediction based on circumstances. If Pelisi manages to keep the house then gridlock continues. Another four years at war. And income inequality gets worse.
