You mean utterly dominate Canada and outshoot them by more than a 2 to 1 margin? Gotcha.
You must enjoy the Allstar game. I wouldn't go accross the street to see it. This is where we differ.

Anytime a sport determines it's champion by a shootout, it weakens the sport. I'm not a fan of international hockey because of this.

We'll, my previous point implied that it takes a team effort to win the cup,and then you went on to say that the Rangers won the cup because of Messier's leadership. WRONG! The Rangers won the cup because they had an incredibly talented and experienced roster.
Of course it's a team effort to win the Stanley Cup. But, I challange you to show me a Cup winning team that had a weak captain.

What exactly is your point?

That '94 squad had a disgusting amount of playoff experience and talent.

Graves, Leetch, Larmer, Zubov, Kovalev, Lowe, Nemchinov, Mactavish,Amonte, etc. They were heavy favourites to win it that year.

My point is that you need a good supporting cast to win a cup. Not just a good leader, like buddy was seeming to say as to why the Leafs will never win a cup with Sundin.

True.

I believe the 94 win was Messier's last harrah. Do you recall that series? Messier looked like a man possessed. He would never have been able to play with the same intensity after that, too old.

I also believe this underscores my point perfectly. When Messier's desire and intensity diminished, so did the Ranger's.

You missed my point.

My point was you can win a Cup with a weaker supporting cast and a good leader (its happened many times) but it's impossible to win without the leadership (I've never seen it but maybe you can give me an example).

Carolina last year.Brind'Amour is a good leader, but yet again, it comes back to having the talent around you.

The things is this. If Sundin doesn't have a good (not great) supporting cast, you can't lay blame on him for not being the kind of leader that could lead the Leafs to the Stanley Cup.

Ryan Smyth is Captain Canada but he lost to Brind'Amour's Canes .. What does that mean Brind'Amour's a better Captain or Canes are a better team ..
Only one team can win the Cup ..
I would argue that Edmonton got to the finals in a large part because of Smyth's leadership. Everyone was surprised they got past the first round. On paper, the Oilers were not as deep in talent as any of their opponents.

guyroch said:
Doug Glimour's and Clark leadership lost against Gretzky's Kings does that make Doug and Wendal bad Leaders ... No ...
Of course not.

Again, on ice leadership is necessary to win at the highest level. It is possible to lose the Stanley Cup with great on ice leadership, but it is not possible to win without it.

Sundin does not provide this leadership IMO.

Flame away Euro lovers, but if you don't get it by now, you never will.

This is not a matter of opinion. The Olympics features the best players in the NHL, thus it's played at a higher quality than the NHL playoffs which features it's worst players as well.

Is any of this getting through to you?
LOL. Taking yourself a little too seriously aren't you?

Personally, I can't take anyone seriously who prefers to watch weak ass, shootout determining, wimpy, Allstar type international hockey to NHL playoff hockey.

Hehehehehehehe.

It has nothing to do with taking one too seriously. If you're preference is to watch NHL, fine, but to say it's higher quality than the Olympics is pure idiocy.

I can't really take anyone seriously who belives Olympic hockey is weak ass and wimpy hockey simply because it's not NHL playoff hockey. To top it off the guy thinks it's higher caliber than Olympics. If this isn't the definition of an ignorant Canadian hockey fan, I don't know what is.

You're seriously telling me Edmonton could beat Team Finaland, Russia, Sweden, etc?

Hehehehehehehehehe. Oh man, give me a sec. Hehehehehehehehe.

Did you even watch the Olympics? By calling it wimpy you simply show your ignorance.
I only watch Olympic hockey when Canada is playing.

As I said before, anytime a championship is determined by a shootout, it's a weak championship.

I may be an idiot and ignorant, but what I realize and you don't is that hockey is more than a skills competition. I would rather watch a series like the 1986 Edmonton vs. Calgary series than 100 Olympic games.

So why are you lumping a whole popluation base under the same umbrella ( sorry for spelling ) ..

Italy won the World Cup ... Spain won the World Championship of basketball ..
They did it without a great Canadian being a leader ... Canada doesn't have a
monoply on Leaders ..

This not a knock against Canadians but a knock against thinking that a country
can't produce a leaader ...
Guyroch, don't bother.

This guy is exactly the kind of guy that gets made fun of by logical fans. Heck, we should give him a bottle of Molson Canadian and the box set of Don Cherry's Rock'em Sock'em. Arrrrrggh, good Canadian boys, eh. I'm an ignorant Canadian hockey fan, eh.

Ask him what happend to Team Canada at the last Olympics. Oooooooo all that great Canadian leadership and it couldn't even get them to the medal round. How the heck does that happen?

Just ignore the guy. He's blind towards any players that aren't Canadian, eh.

At least you can admit that. Kudos.

Perhaps one day you'll be able to appreciate the most talented hockey players in the world playing in a game without 4th line goons and grinders. The faster pace, the abundance of creativity, it really is a great game to watch.

I'll keep for fingers crossed for you.

You keep changing your posts. We might all be better off if you decide what you're going to post and post it.

I guess you're too young to remember the exhibition games when NHL teams were facing the Russians. The Russians were widely regarded as the best hockey team in the world at that time. I seem to recall them getting beat by the lowly NHL teams. Philly even got them to leave the ice.....lol

LMAO.

You're taking this a little too personally. You must be from Sweden.

What about the 02 Olympics when the Gold Medal round was between the U.S. and Canada. Where were all your Euro boys then?

Take a look at Canada's record in international hockey and show me any country that comes close.

BTW, comparing me to Don Cherry is just about the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. Don Cherry knows more about hockey than any of us does, thats for sure.

Anyway, carry on Mats, Borje or whatever your name is...lmao

Somebody is stuck in the '70's. By the way, that was the Red Army they beat up, not the Soviet National team. Thus making it a club team versus a club team.

Ok, so you're telling me an NHL team could beat the Russian Olympic team, yet Canada's best at the Olympics couldn't? Heheheheheheheheh oh man, that's so rich. Heheheheheheheheheh.

Hey, if it makes you feel good that the Braodstreet bullies beat up the Russians in the 70's, godd for you. Go with that.

I'm Canadian, but unlike you, I can appreciate players that aren't Canadian.

You think highly of Don Cherry? Hehehehehehehehe oh man, that's great. You're probably drinking a Molson Candadian right now I bet.

Yeah, he knows a great deal about hockey. Famous for fucking up a line change and being repsonsible for making the Mississauga Ice Dogs the laughingstock of junior hockey. Ask Jason Spezza about this Cherry's hockey knowledge. The guy (like you) is still living in the 70's. Why do you think Spezza demanded a trade away from him? The guy had absolutely no idea how to run a team.

Hehehehehehe thanks for laugh. I tell ya, some of my fellow Canadian hockey fans are so blind to the the kind of talent the rest of the world produces.

Here's something you can try. Next time you watch a game, don't dismiss anyone who isn't from North America, they're actually pretty good hokcey players.

Good Canadian boy, eh. It's all about leadership and dumpin' and chasin' eh.

Hehehehehe the Canadian hosers provide such great comedic value.
