I've been reading the Leftist government in Mexico has been trying to back-off aspects of the agreement. This seems to be a periodic game that is played. And the reality is that it will increase the cost of virtually all goods in the US....a new national sales tax that will be passed on to the consumer. If you thought COVID inflation was bad....just wait for this. But the thing that is interesting is that Trump says he would put tariffs on stuff coming from Mexico...which (checks notes) is part of the USMCA trade agreement....So, is he lying? And if he's not, is he just confused? Remember, he said basically tariffs across the board. How is that going to help the lower and middle class?
I've always been skeptical of free trade*. I certainly support any Administration in its efforts to represent the U.S. trade interests. I support Biden's tariffs against China even when many criticized Trump for enacting them.
*Free trade is the operative phrase. Many economists like free trade in principle and many don't believe it can be achieved it globally. I know you can find and post articles with your POV. However, you need to realize many progressive economists have generally supported tariffs in order to protect union industries.
Some people will rally against any Trump proposal just as some will rally against any Harris proposal. You are looking for black and white or should we say red and blue in every issue.
