I started Keto last year on the advice of my cardiologist, only he suggested "ultra low carb". I had previously spoken to my endocrinologist about various "metabolic diets" and he told me to be cautious, but that he did not know alot about Ketogenic diet. So I decided to give it a try. Its an easy diet to enjoy because I like meat, fish and leafy greens. After 4 months my blood sugars came down, my need for insulin dropped and I lost 20% of my body weight. I had to buy new shirts and pants. Since starting Keto, I've done a lot of research and I communicate on line with several MD's in the US as well as nutritionists. Calories are not equal because of how the body uses the macros, the hormones that are needed etc. We all know that after you eat Chinese food, you get hungry again. The reason is that all the sugar in the sauces causes your insulin to spike, making you hungry. Lots of insulin makes fat get stored and sugar burned for fuel.
If you simply want to lose weight, cut out either fat or carbs, you can't have both. Exercise.
If you are diabetic like I am, having carbs is like eating poison. Drink plenty of water to protect your kidneys, keep an eye on your blood work, and go full Keto.
But it is important to remember that what might work for one person, may not work for another. If you simply wish to lose weight, you should experiment and decide for yourself.
If you are diabetic there is only Keto for the path to health.
