Doesn't sound like Marner is asking for even the most minimal of discoutns.. The Leafs stars have always been paid a tad above market vs comps.
Might as well let him go, take that cap space, sign a few players to balance the middle of your lineup and hope it pays off.

I hate to say it, but it was also a lack of teamwork and skill...
The Leafs will NEVER be a real contender unless they can get rid of Rielly. 3 more years of the worst defensive liability at 7.5 mil. Buy him out at all costs.
Spent almost a week there in the mid-90s. Pure serenity with an impeccably tailored Italian landscape. Not many tourists back then. Ate at Al Sorriso in the nearby Novara hills, a Ma and Pa Piedmontese restaurant, if Ma and Pa had a Michelin star or two. Maybe the Leafs could go there for some R&R head-adjustments.

The Panthers finished 10 points behind the Leafs at the end of the regular season but were favoured in all 7 games of this series. Florida is a team built for playoff hockey the Leafs are built for regular season success. Someone mentioned signing Bennett and Marchand, can’t see them leaving a perennial cup contender for Toronto not to mention having to pay a shitload more income tax.
Keep KNIES, DOMI and TANEV, Goaltending is not the problem.
