I'm not disputing your experiences in Australia, but we're not talking about that. The OP referenced an article about the US and by extension Canada. For the most part, we do not have very loud birds, the climate is not subtropical, we have double paned windows and insulation in buildings and A/C is common.There are very loud birds in that climate; Kookaburra is the loudest that springs to mind.
In a sub tropical place there is no need for much insulation or double pane windows.
In fact you would leave the windows open for like 7 months of the year all day and night long to catch a breeze.
Household a/c is not at all common.
